Hornets Believe: CP3 Dedicates Third Basketball Court in New Orleans

A few hundred Hornets fans, many decked out in the familiar No. 3 jersey of their favorite player, stopped by the A.L. Davis Playground on Saturday, Feb. 20, for the official opening of brand-new basketball courts for children. Three-time New Orleans All-Star point guard Chris Paul joined forces with other local organizations to refurbish and construct the facilities, which are located on LaSalle Street, in the Uptown area of the city.
This is the third court that has been refurbished in the New Orleans area by Paul, who made the following comments at Saturday's ceremony:
"I just want to say how truly honored and blessed I am to be here. This whole thing is not about me. It's about kids having the opportunity to run around and be kids, and play all the games I used to play. The most important things are to keep it clean and safe – to keep this park like it's your home.
"I want to thank the city of New Orleans for the way you have taken me in. I love it here in New Orleans. There is no place like it. I've had an opportunity to experience so many things; Mardi Gras was crazy this past week.
"I think a lot of people see me out (in the NOLA community) and say 'What are you doing here?' I just play in the NBA. Other than that, I am a regular person just like everybody else. I was at the Saints' (NFL championship) parade. Even though I'm not from New Orleans, I feel like I'm Who Dat Nation, too.
"Basketball gives me an opportunity to be in the limelight a little bit more, but my parents and family have instilled in me so many different things. God has truly blessed me. I was just like you kids running around in the park, with everyone telling me I was too little to (play sports). Who would've thought I would get an opportunity to play basketball every single day and be able to say that's how I make my living? It's truly a blessing."
