Back when they were youngsters growing up in North Carolina, Chris Paul and older brother C.J. Paul always looked forward to their family’s large annual Thanksgiving gatherings. Every year, they knew they’d be joined by at least 30 to 40 relatives, who would stop by to eat and enjoy a relaxing day.
With Chris out West this week due to the Hornets’ three-game road trip to Los Angeles, Denver and Portland, the Paul family was unable to host their annual tradition. Still, the Paul siblings made sure that other New Orleans families will be able to experience a more enjoyable Thanksgiving later this week.
The Paul brothers teamed up with Rouses Supermarkets to donate $50 gift cards to a total of 100 local families that can be used to purchase Thanksgiving meals. The Pauls came up with the idea to donate gift cards to 50 families, which was matched by Rouses.
“We wanted to do this regardless, but for Rouses to step up and match was great, and means that even more families were able to be a part of this,” said C.J., who spent time Monday evening shopping for groceries with five of the benefiting families at the Rouses location in Mid-City. “No matter what city he is in, or whether it’s for people back in Winston-Salem or here in New Orleans, Chris always wants to do something like this every year at Thanksgiving and Christmas.”
“When we heard about it from the Chris Paul Foundation, we thought it would be a great idea to match their contributions,” said Allison Rouse of Rouses. “The families are getting the chance to have all of the fixings for a really special Thanksgiving dinner.”
