![]() The New Orleans Hornets “Read To Achieve” Program The Read to Achieve program is an NBA initiative created to wage a battle against illiteracy. The New Orleans Hornets host monthly Read to Achieve events at elementary schools in the New Orleans metropolitan area and its surrounding parishes to encourage and excite children about the benefits of reading and comprehension. After an entire school climbs aboard our Bookmobile and selects a free book, our players, broadcasters or special guests host a Read to Achieve assembly. These fun-filled gatherings allow students the chance to see what it takes to play basketball or work in the NBA, with emphasis on how reading and learning in school were keys to their success on the basketball court, in the classroom, on the job and in every aspect of life. The Hornets Believe in Time-Outs for Reading! Reading Time Outs are personal reading sessions held with small groups of students with one of our esteemed storytellers. These Time-Out sessions wrap up our Read to Achieve events with one-on-one time reading and informal question-and-answer session with students in our efforts to help cultivate next generation leaders within our community.
