Six-year-old Gregory Robinson was hopeful Tuesday that one of his pals would be stopping by Robinson’s brand-new house in the New Orleans East section of the city. After all, the last time Robinson got to hang out with his favorite point guard, he and Chris Paul appeared on national television together, during NBA TV’s half-hour show “New Orleans on the Rise.”

Unfortunately, Paul couldn’t pay Gregory a visit this time, due to Hornets’ Tuesday flight to Oakland, Calif., for their regular season opener against Golden State.

Although Gregory missed his buddy CP3, it was still a memorable day for the youngster and his family. As part of the Hornets’ Hoops for Homes program, team owner George Shinn joined Habitat for Humanity in officially dedicating two new homes in New Orleans East, including one for Gregory and his family.

“We are committed to New Orleans and love this city,” Shinn said during a brief ceremony, on behalf of the Hornets organization. “We believe that when you can lift up others, you lift up yourself.” Gregory, his 3-year-old younger brother Alex, and his 26-year-old mother, Antoinette Robinson, were welcomed into their home, located on Dale Street.

“The boys and I are very excited about getting a new house,” said Antoinette, who has plans to open up a day-care center. “Owning a home was a dream and a goal of mine, but I didn’t expect it to be so soon. This is a blessing. I thank God for this opportunity. I thank all the volunteers, who time out of their busy lives to help.”

The second house, located on nearby America Street, will be owned by lifelong the family of lifelong New Orleans resident Wellington Stewart, who was born and raised in the Lower Ninth Ward.

“Our old house in the Lower Ninth Ward has been through too many hurricanes,” Stewart said. “Now that Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have come, our home could not be repaired.

“This new house will be just what we need, and it is definitely what we have been praying for.”
