Imagine if our players were missing the equipment necessary for Saturday night’s game against the Spurs: no uniforms, basketballs or sneakers. Wouldn’t be a very good game, would it?
The truth is, you can’t be expected to win without the basics. This is unfortunately a reality in our schools today as more than 50 percent of children in this region don’t have the essential school supplies to succeed academically. Classroom Central equips over 135,000 students and 9,000 educators in more than 200 schools across six districts: Charlotte-Mecklenburg, City of Kannapolis, Iredell-Statesville, Gaston, Lancaster and Union. Teachers at high poverty schools can shop at Classroom Central once a month for supplies for their students.
Due to increasing growth and geographical expansion, Classroom Central started a second delivery method in 2010 known as the Mobile Free Store, which bundles and delivers supplies to schools further from the city center. In order for Classroom Central to reach even more students, it launched Classroom Up, an innovative online ordering system serving 34 CMS schools. By January 2015 all CMS schools will be able to use Classroom Central’s Classroom Up online ordering system.
The Charlotte Bobcats are proud to partner with Classroom Central at the Spurs game this Saturday, February 8. Classroom Central will be collecting school supply donations, so please bring calculators, pens, pencils, paper, compasses, protractors, rulers, markers, highlighters and colored pencils to the Bobcats Community Corner located across from section 112 in Time Warner Cable® Arena. Can’t make it to the game? No worries, make a donation to Classroom Central online at ClassroomCentral.org. Help level the playing field for all children.
Saturday’s game will also be the first night for the following featured auction items and Classroom Central will receive a portion of our auction proceeds.
In addition to our silent auction we will also have Courtside Raffle tickets for the chance to win Michael Jordan’s courtside seats to the Brooklyn Nets game on March 26, plus an autographed Michael Jordan basketball.
We look forward to seeing you at the Community Corner!
