We're one month into the 2011-12 NBA season which means it's time for the first installment of The Fab 5 Rankings, which measures the best five-man units in basketball according to Aaron Barzilai's Adjusted Plus-Minus stats.
And nobody--repeat, noooooobody--has a Fab 5 quite like the Indiana Pacers quintet of Darren Collison, Paul George, Danny Granger, David West and Roy Hibbert.
When you look at the numbers, it's little wonder why Indiana is 11-5 right now.
THE FAB 5 RANKINGS
1. PACERS (+107.35, +21.09 APM, 244.33 minutes) ... Darren Collison, Paul George, Danny Granger, David West, Roy Hibbert ... Question: How would you like to match up with a 7-2, 260-pound center, a 6-9, 240-pound power forward, a 6-8, 228-pound small forward and a 6-freakin'-10, 224-pound shooting guard? Answer: You wouldn't.
2. BULLS (+50.22, +15.93 APM, 151.32 minutes) ... Derrick Rose, Ronnie Brewer, Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer, Joakim Noah ... Rip Hamilton has been a good fit for the Bulls, but their go-to five-man lineup is this defensive-stopper unit.
3. CLIPPERS (+50.06, +16.48 APM, 145.82 minutes) ... Chris Paul, Chauncey Billups, Caron Butler, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan ... These three vets and these two young studs are five reasons why this organization will have its first .600-plus squad in Clippers' history.
4. ROCKETS (+35.90, +11.49 APM, 149.97 minutes) ... Kyle Lowry, Kevin Martin, Chandler Parsons, Luis Scola, Samuel Dalembert ... Free agent Dalembert and rookie Parsons are fitting seamlessly into their new roles with this team.
5. CELTICS (+31.69, +15.41 APM, 98.70 minutes) ... Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Jermaine O'Neal ... When these five are in uniform and on the floor, Boston is still the same dangerous team.
