Due primarily to the defense-oriented mid-to-late 90's, the top five single-season scoring teams all came in the first three years of the decade. Denver captured the highest total with their 119.9 ppg in 1990-91. However, high scoring did not pave the way to success for the Nuggets, as they posted a 20-62 record that season, which was the worst record in the league. Golden State, led by the early 90's trio known as "Run TMC" (
Tim Hardaway,
Mitch Richmond and
Chris Mullin) claimed three of the best five scoring seasons of the decade.
