The Celtics Connection -- Larry Bird, Robert Parish, and Nate "Tiny" Archibald -- ignited a fourth-quarter drive to lead the East to a 120-118 victory at New Jersey's Meadowlands Arena, the first sellout for a sporting event in that building.

"At money time," said Bird, who gained MVP honors, "the coach (Boston's Bill Fitch) called Celtic plays."

Bird tallied 12 of his team's last 15 points in the final 61/2 minutes. The 7-foot Parish shot 9-for-12 from the field and led the East with 21 points. Archibald contributed a team-high 7 assists.

"After Tiny won the MVP Award last year, I wanted to keep it in the Celtics' family," said Bird.

Seattle's Gus Williams topped the West with a game-high 22 points and 9 assists.
