Bob Pettit's 28 points and 26 rebounds were not enough to keep the West from bowing to the East, 130-118, at the Arena in St. Louis. However, his performance won him the game's MVP Award, making him the first member of a losing team to be so honored in the eight-year history of the event. For Pettit, a member of the St. Louis Hawks, it was the second time he had been named MVP.

Leading the East were Philadelphia's Paul Arizin, with 24 points, and Boston's Bob Cousy, with 20. The game was closely contested until the final quarter, when the East outscored the West by a 38-25 margin.
