WEST 135, EAST 120, at the Cow Palace (San Francisco)
MVP: Rick Barry
Riding a four-game losing streak in the All-Star Game, the West snapped out of its funk behind a monstrous scoring performance from Rick Barry. Barry pumped in 38 points on 16-for-27 shooting to win MVP honors as the West defeated the East 135-120.
It was the lone All-Star MVP in Barry's career and his 27 field goals made set an All-Star Game record. Nate Thurmond, Barry's teammate from the Warriors, helped the West with 16 points and 18 rebounds and tied an All-Star Game record by playing 42 minutes.
For the West, Wilt Chamberlain led the way with 14 points, 22 rebounds and four assists. Jerry Sloan, a legend with the Chicago Bulls and a Hall of Famer as a coach with the Utah Jazz, made his All-Star debut in this game.
