LeBron James named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month

MIAMI, FL – The NBA announced today that Miami HEAT forward LeBron James was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month, presented by Kia Motors for games played in December 2013. This marks the 21st time a HEAT player has earned Player of the Month honors in franchise history and James’ 11th as a member of the HEAT, the most by a player in franchise history.

James averaged 24.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.64 steals while shooting 58.1 percent from the field in December. He recorded three double-doubles and two 20-10-5 games while leading the HEAT in scoring 11 times, in minutes and assists 10 times each, in rebounds and steals five times each and in blocks twice. He scored at least 20 points in 10 games, including five games with at least 25 points and three games with 30-or-more points while shooting at least 50 percent from the field in 12 of his 14 games. Additionally, he scored in double-figures in all 14 games he appeared in, and including last night, he has continued his streak of scoring in double-digits in 526 games, tying for the fourth-longest such streak in NBA history. He capped off the month leading the HEAT in points per game, rebounds per game, assists per game, field goals made (129) and field goal percentage.

James helped lead Miami to an Eastern Conference-best 11-4 (.733) December record. The 11 wins were the most in the Eastern Conference and tied for the third-most in the NBA. On December 7, he posted a 21-point, 14-rebound double-double, shooting 75 percent (9-of-12) from the field, while also recording eight assists and two steals in a, 103-82, win at Minnesota. On the second night of a back-to-back set at Detroit on December 8, he scored a game-high 24 points while dishing out nine assists and grabbing seven rebounds, helping Miami to a, 110-95, victory. James missed a triple-double by a single rebound and assist, totaling a game-high 25 points, nine rebounds and a game-high nine assists vs. Cleveland in a, 114-107, win on December 14. He again missed a triple-double by a single rebound and assist in a, 117-94, win vs. Utah on December 16 after leading the HEAT in points (30), rebounds (9) and assists (9), marking the 126th time in his career, and the fourth time this season, he has led his team in points, rebounds and assists, the most among active players. In a battle of the top two teams in the East, James shot 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from the field vs. Indiana on December 18, posting 24 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals to help Miami earn the, 97-94, win. He then scored a game-high 38 points in a, 121-119, victory vs. Atlanta on December 23, while also totaling eight rebounds, six assists and two steals in the same game. James capped off the month posting a 26-point, 10-assist double-double in a, 97-94, win at Denver on December 30, ending the HEAT’s Western Conference road trip with a 3-1 record.

Among league leaders this season, James currently ranks third in field goal percentage (.591), fourth in points per game (25.5), 12th in assists (6.6), 21st in minutes per game (36.2), 34th in three-point field goal percentage (.409) and tied for 34th in steals per game (1.29).
