Wade Selected to 2010-12 USA Basketball Men's National Team

MIAMI, 02/10 – USA Basketball announced that Miami HEAT All-Star guard Dwyane Wade was selected to the 2010-12 USA Basketball Men’s National Team. Over the course of 2010-12, the USA Men’s Nation Team will compete in the 2010 FIBA World Championships on August 28 thru September 12 in Turkey and if necessary, the 2011 FIBA Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournament (dates and site TBD). If the team qualifies, they will compete in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, England on July 26 thru August 12. 

Wade was a member of the USA Basketball Men’s Senior National Team that captured the gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. During the three-year period between 2006-08, the team compiled a dominate 36-1 overall win-loss record including a perfect 8-0 record at the 2008 Beijing Games to win the USA their first gold medal in a major international competition since 2000. Wade appeared in eight games and averaged 16.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.25 steals, 1.9 assists and 18.8 minutes. He led the team in points (128), scoring average and free throws made (26) while finishing second on the team in three-point field goal percentage (.471), tied for second in offensive rebounds (14) and blocks (18) and third in field goals made (47) and field goal percentage (.671). Additionally, Wade was a member of the USA Basketball Men’s Senior National Team that captured the bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.  

Wade has appeared in 52 games (all starts) for the Miami HEAT this season averaging 26.7 points, 6.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 1.87 steals, 1.12 blocks and 36.4 minutes while shooting 46.5 percent from the field. He leads the team in points (1,386), scoring average, assists (334), steals (97), field goals made (491), free throws made (350) and minutes (1,894). He has led the team in scoring 43 times, in assists 41 times and in rebounds on four occasions. Among league leaders, Wade ranks fifth in scoring average, fifth in steals, ninth in assists, 29th in blocks and 31st in minutes.
