Stan Van Gundy Named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month

NEW YORK, January 4 – Miami HEAT head coach Stan Van Gundy and Phoenix Suns head coach Mike D’Antoni today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Coaches of the Month for games played in December.

Van Gundy led Miami to a 14-1 record, a HEAT franchise record for any month. The team also set a franchise record by winning 13 consecutive games in one month, and won their last 7 road games, the team’s longest streak since an 11-game road winning streak in 1998. Miami ranks first in field goal percentage, shooting 49.6% and held opponents to 43.3% shooting.

D’Antoni led the Suns to a 13-2 record through December, including an 11-game winning streak. The Suns rank first in the league in average points per game (110.3), third in margin of victory (8.9 points) and forth in field goal percentage (47.8%).

Other nominees for the Coach of the Month award were Chicago’s Scott Skiles in the Eastern Conference and San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich in the Western Conference.
