Hakim Warrick scored 23 of his game-high 33 points in the second half as the Memphis Grizzlies overcame a 16-point second half deficit to record a 94-87 victory over the Miami HEAT in the finale for both teams in the Summer Pro League at The Pyramid in Long Beach, CA. The HEAT finished with a 3-4 record, while the Grizzlies concluded play with a 6-1 mark.
Wayne Simien and Earl Barron once again led the way for the HEAT. Simien, Miami’s 2005 first-round pick, finished with a team-high 26 points and six rebounds. The 26-point effort marked his high for the summer and was the fourth time in seven summer league contests he scored at least 20 points. He finished play averaging 17.1 points and 7.0 rebounds while connecting on 52.9 percent (46-87) of his field goal attempts. His 215 minutes played topped the HEAT and his scoring average, rebound average and shooting percentage all ranked second on the team behind Barron. His four 20-point games tied Barron for the team-high. Barron totaled 23 points and a team-high eight rebounds against the Grizzlies to finish summer league action averaging team-highs in points (17.4) and rebounds (7.4 rpg). His 65.2 percent (43-66) field goal accuracy also topped the HEAT as did his seven blocked shots (1.00 bpg). The HEAT, which held a 51-39 edge at the half, also received 13 points from Matt Walsh. The former University of Florida Gator led the HEAT in three-point field goals made during summer league play, connecting from downtown on 10 occasions. Walsh averaged 8.0 points per game and led the HEAT with 15 assists in the seven games. In addition to Warrick’s 33-point effort, the Grizzlies had three other players score in double figures. Anthony Roberson had 12 points and a team-high four assists, Antonio Burks tallied 11 points, three assists and two steals and Lawrence Roberts scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for Memphis, which shot 55.3 percent (21-38) in the second half and outscored the HEAT, 55-36. |
