Head Coach Erik Spoelstra To Join NBA Fit Team

MIAMI, 01/04 – The Miami HEAT have announced that Head Coach Erik Spoelstra, with the support of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, will partner with the NBA and NBA Cares as a member of their NBA FIT team.

In honor of NBA FIT Week, 100 children from local inner-city elementary and middle schools will pledge their fitness commitment and New Year’s Resolutions to the Miami HEAT and the NBA on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at W South Beach at 3:30PM. Miami HEAT Head Coach Erik Spoelstra will be in attendance as a part of the NBA FIT team to encourage the children in their fitness goals. Also in attendance will be HEAT Television Play-by-Play announcer Eric Reid, who will emcee the event, along with the Miami HEAT Dancers, Burnie the HEAT Mascot as well as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida representatives and local community leaders. 

Additionally, Head Coach Erik Spoelstra’s featured blog, “Spo on the Go,” will be incorporated on HEAT.com, as fans can learn about healthy living while also getting an understanding of how physical fitness is important to the success of Miami HEAT players and the Miami HEAT organization. 

NBA FIT encourages physical activity and healthy living through products, events and programs for children and their families, while providing youngsters with an opportunity to participate, free of charge, in exciting fitness competitions. The goal of NBA FIT is to engage one million children, adults and families to pledge NBA FIT during the 2009-10 season.
