LeBron James Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

MIAMI, February 7th – The NBA has announced that Miami HEAT forward LeBron James was named the Eastern Conference Player of Week for games played January 31 – February 6. This marks the 30th time James has earned Player of the Week accolades in his career, the most times a player has earned the honors in NBA history. It also marks the 31st time in franchise history a HEAT player has earned Player of the Week honors and the fourth time James has earned the honor as a member of the HEAT. 

He led the HEAT to a perfect 4-0 week, averaging 26.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 1.25 steals while shooting 55.2 percent from the field and 80.6 percent from the foul line. He posted one double-double and led the team in assists and steals twice, and in minutes, rebounds and scoring once each. 

James scored 24 points, dished out a game-high eight assists, grabbed four rebounds and blocked one shot in a 27-point win (117-90) against Cleveland on January 31. He then opened the next game by hitting a career-best 11 straight field goal attempts on his way to posting an NBA season-high 51 points in Miami’s 104-100 win at Orlando on Feb. 3. The 51-point performance marked the ninth in his career that James has scored at least 50 points in a game. In that contest, James set HEAT franchise records for the most points for a road game (51) and most points in a first quarter (23). In addition to his 51 points, James contributed a team-high 11 rebounds, a game-high eight assists, one steal and one block in a team-high 42:39 minutes of action becoming the first player since Michael Jordan (Jan. 21, 1989 at Phoenix) to record at least 50 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in a game. One night later on the second night of a back-to-back set, he totaled 19 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and 36:39 minutes in a 109-97 win at Charlotte. He closed the week by posting 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and a team-high four steals in 35:37 minutes of action in Miami’s 97-79 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Feb. 6. The victory over the Clippers marked the sixth consecutive win for the HEAT who lead the Southeast Division. 

Among league leaders this season, James ranks third in scoring (26.1), ninth in minutes (38.2), 12th in assists (7.3), tied for 16th in steals (1.51) and tied for 27th in rebounds (7.2).
