HEAT Sign Shandon Anderson

MIAMI, Nov. 14 – The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed free agent guard/forward Shandon Anderson, waived forward Matt Freije and placed Christian Laettner on the injured list with right knee patella tendinitis. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Anderson, playing in his ninth NBA season, has averaged 8.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 23.4 minutes per game with the Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets and New York Knicks. He played in one game for the Knicks in the 2004-05 season before getting waived on November 9. In 80 games (37 starts) with the Knicks last season, he averaged 7.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 24.7 minutes per game. He shot .422 from the field and led the Knicks in scoring on four occasions.

A 6’6”, 210-pound guard/forward, Anderson was drafted by the Utah Jazz with the 54th pick in the 1996 NBA Draft. He spent three seasons with the Jazz before signing with the Rockets as a free agent on September 29, 1999. He was then part of a three-team trade in the summer of 2001 which sent him to New York.

Freije was selected by the HEAT with the 53rd pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. He appeared in three preseason games for Miami, averaging 1.3 points in 5.7 minutes per game. He began the regular season on the injured list with an upper respiratory infection.
