HEAT to Host Youth Basketball Clinic at U.S. Southern Command on Veterans Day

Conducted by HEAT Players Ray Allen and Udonis Haslem ▪ Special Appearances by HEAT President Pat Riley, HEAT Legend Alonzo Mourning and HEAT Assistant Coach Dan Craig

MIAMI, November 8 – The Miami HEAT has teamed up with Gatorade to host a special Veterans Day HEAT Youth Basketball Clinic on Monday, November 11th, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. at United States Southern Command headquarters in Doral. HEAT President Pat Riley, HEAT Legend Alonzo Mourning, HEAT Assistant Coach Dan Craig and HEAT players Ray Allen and Udonis Haslem will make special appearances at the clinic.

HEAT In-Arena P.A. Announcer Michael Baiamonte and In-Arena Host Dale will emcee the event. Former HEAT Athletic Trainer Ron Culp, who served in that role for the team’s first 20 years, will also be in attendance. Approximately 150 children, ages 6 – 17, of local military families will participate in this clinic, held in the U.S. Army Garrison-Miami Fitness Center. All participants of Monday’s clinic will receive a free HEAT gift bag.

By hosting this clinic at SOUTHCOM on Veterans Day, the HEAT continues its existing tradition of honoring the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces. In 2006, Riley launched the HEAT Home Strong initiative, an on-going program where members of the military who have returned home are saluted during every HEAT home game. The mission of the Home Strong initiative is to give aid, support and recognition to any person who has been in harm’s way during their military service.

In addition, the HEAT has partnered with GovX, the leading website dedicated to providing those who protect and serve our country and communities with exclusive, significant savings on sports and event ticketing and thousands of premium products. GovX will soon be providing specially priced HEAT tickets exclusively to this deserving group including active, reserve, veteran and retired U.S. Military personnel as well as first responders. In addition, GovX has purchased hundreds of HEAT tickets, which it will donate to local military service members, first responders and their families throughout the 2013-14 season, including the military families of SOUTHCOM who will participate in the Veterans Day clinic. GovX is also proud to sponsor the presentation of the Color Guard at 20 home games this season.

The United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) is one of nine unified Combatant Commands in the Department of Defense.
