Free Agency 2003: HEAT Announce Roster Moves
Miami HEAT President and Head Coach Pat Riley announced June 30th that the team has picked up the contract options on forwards Rasual Butler and Sean Lampley. The club made a qualifying offer to forward Malik Allen, making him a restricted free agent. The HEAT did not extend qualifying offers to guards Eddie House and Mike James, making them unrestricted free agents. Rasual Butler started 28 of the 72 games in which he appeared as a rookie this past season and averaged 7.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 21.0 minutes. He ranked third on the team in both three-point field goals made (50) and three-point field goals attempted (171). His 50 treys made were the second highest by a rookie in HEAT history and his 171 three-point attempts tied the HEAT rookie record. Lampley appeared in 35 games as a rookie in 2002-03, all off the bench, and averaged 4.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 13.9 minutes. Allen started 73 of the 80 games in which he appeared in this past season and averaged 9.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, a team-high 0.98 blocks and 29.0 minutes. In his two seasons with the HEAT, Allen has appeared in 92 games (75 starts) and has averaged 8.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 0.93 blocks and 26.9 minutes while shooting 42.4 percent from the floor and 80.2 percent from the line. House started seven of the 55 games in which he appeared last season and averaged 7.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 18.6 minutes. In his three seasons with the HEAT, House appeared in 169 games (10 starts) and averaged 7.0 points, 1.6 assists, 1.5 rebounds and 16.6 minutes while shooting 39.9 percent from the floor, 32.8 percent from three-point range and 80.8 percent from the foul line. James started eight of the 78 games in which he appeared in during the 2002-03 campaign and averaged 7.8 points, 3.2 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 22.1 minutes. In his two seasons with Miami, James appeared in 93 games (eight starts) and averaged 7.0 points, 2.8 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 19.8 minutes while shooting 37.1 percent from the floor, 30.1 percent from three-point range and 72.5 percent from the line. |
