Free Agency 2003: HEAT Request Waivers on LaPhonso Ellis

Miami HEAT President and Head Coach Pat Riley announced June 30th that the team has requested waivers on forward LaPhonso Ellis.

Ellis, a 6’8”, 240-pound forward, was signed by the HEAT as a free agent on July 28, 2001. In his two years with Miami, Ellis appeared in 121 games and made 17 starts. He averaged 6.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 20.4 minutes while connecting on 40.5 percent (289-714) from the floor, 28.1 percent (65-231) from three-point range and 68.7 percent (103-150) from the foul line. Ellis scored in double figures 28 times as a member of the HEAT and was named the Atlantic Division winner of the NBA Sportsmanship Award during the 2001-02 season. The 11-year veteran appeared in 55 games during the 2002-03 season and averaged 5.0 points, 2.9 rebounds and 14.3 minutes while shooting 38.2 percent (100-262) from the floor, 25.2 percent (27-107) from three-point range and 75.8 percent (50-66) from the foul line.
