Dwyane Wade Press Conference on Signing with the HEAT

Who would have won that one-on-one between you and Caron (Butler) today?

I think Caron prayed for the rain today.

Have you guys gone one-on-one?

No, we haven’t played one-on-one, but I think it would have been competitive, it would have been good and fun.

In Chicago you did a lot of one-on-ones, against guys like (Tim) Hardaway, (Antoine) Walker, (Michael) Finley, I heard you showed yourself pretty well out there, what did you think?

I just tried not to back down, let the ball speak for itself. I just kept my mouth shut because I am a rookie and I just played basketball the way that I know how. I had a couple of good days down there.

How was the Chicago experience different than what you experienced playing in the summer league, just playing against all those pro guys in Chicago?

For me at first it was like wow, all of us in one spot like this, it was crazy, but once you got playing it was all competitive and everybody out there wanted to win, so it just gave me confidence from this point on that I can play with these guys.

Watching you in the summer league, it looked like you and Caron were really getting things together, can you see something building there like a friendship on and off the court?

Yeah, Caron’s a guy I look up to and that’s a guy that I listen to a lot. He gives me a lot of different pointers, but at the same time he listens to me too and it’s just something that we have, he’s a Mid-West guy, I’m a Mid-West guy and it’s just something that we have in connection that it won’t be a problem with me getting him the ball.

How would you like playing with Lamar Odom if he came here?

Just seeing Lamar with the Clippers, I see that he is a talented guy, and he’s a player that can play many positions. If he comes here it would be a good thing for our program.

How important was it for you to finish up the business aspect of getting a contract done early, and now concentrating on getting out there and playing basketball?

It was real important. I can concentrate on basketball and not have to worry about when I was going to sign or when this or that, I just have to worry about basketball now and worry about my family, so now that I’m officially a part of the HEAT it makes it that much more special and better.

Were you up working with Tim Grover on a regular basis?

Yeah, I worked with him everyday when I was out in Chicago. Some days I just played, but other days I went in and did personal training with different guys. Most of the time it was just me, Juwan Howard, and Michael Finley. We just worked out, worked on the court together and then just starting playing later that day. He gives us a lot of personal attention and like I said, today I was in the weight room.

Do you see yourself as the starting point guard on this team?

I see myself where ever coach (Pat Riley) see me as, I’m a player. I’m just going to play the game, whether it’s the one or the two that I’m going to play.

How far along are you from moving your family down here in Miami?

I’m in the process right now of trying to find a place. It’s not easy for me, being 21, looking for my first place, I’m a little picky and I don’t want to spend any money. It’s a good and exciting time for me and my family.
