Dwyane Wade Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week
MIAMI, January 3rd – The NBA announced today that Miami HEAT guard Dwyane Wade was named the Eastern Conference Player of Week for games played December 27 thru January 2. This marks the 28th time in franchise history a HEAT player has earned Player of the Week honors and marks a franchise-record 14th time Wade has received the accolades. Additionally, Wade received Player of the Week honors for games played December 6-12, marking it has the third time in his career Wade has received the honor twice during the same month.
He led the HEAT to a perfect 3-0 week, averaging a league-best 36.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.00 steals while shooting 52.9 percent (37-of-70) from the field. He scored at least 25 points in each contest, including back-to-back 40-point games, while leading the team in scoring, steals, field goals made and free throws made in all three games and rebounds once.
Wade scored a game-high 40 points vs. New York on December 28 while posting nine rebounds, two assists, a game-high two steals in 38:15 minutes of action. On the second night of a back-to-back set on December 29 at Houston, he scored a game-high 45 points, setting a new franchise scoring mark in Houston for a HEAT player, surpassing Glen Rice’s 40-point game on December 12, 1993, while also tallying a team-high seven rebounds, a team-high two steals and one assist in 38:05 minutes. He then posted a team-high 25 points, eight assists, six rebounds, a team-high two steals and a block in 39:26 minutes.
Among league leaders this season, Wade ranks fifth in scoring (24.5), 17th in steals (1.52), 26th in minutes (36.2), tied for 30th in assists (4.3), 34th in field goal percentage (.490), tied for 34th in rebounds (6.5) and tied for 37th in blocks (1.00).
