General Manager and Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff took the first steps in building the Charlotte Bobcats' inaugural roster on Tuesday, selecting HEAT Center Loren Woods during the Charlotte Expansion Selection.
While the past two summers the HEAT have selected much higher in the first round (Caron Butler picked 10th in 2002 and Dwyane Wade picked fifth in 2003), the 19th pick is still very significant in that the past, talent that has come from a 19th selection has proven very noteworthy.
VAN GUNDY END OF SEASON CONFERENCE
"I think the great thing for us going into the off-season is that we have a great appreciation for how far we have come and how much we have done..."
PLAYERS DISCUSS THE SEASON
Sitting back and just reflecting on the season itself, I felt like we had a great year. We improved. We may have lost the game last night (Game 6), but we improved the whole year. We have to be happy with where we started and where we ended.
PAT RILEY SPEAKS
" It has been one of those great turnarounds, which I think we needed because of the way we have struggled as a franchise and a team. When you get caught up in the season and the last 10 weeks are very intense, successful, developing basketball and end up in the second round of the playoffs against the best team in the league, you feel very good about where you are headed. "
JUNE 18 PFUND PRESS CONFERENCE
"Just overall it’s a great feeling to be picking down at #19 this year after the last couple years being at 10 and 5. It’s a better feeling to have had some success during the season and see the team progress, and now still see if we can add to the team through the draft and free agency this summer."
