Draft 2003: Q and A with TJ Ford
What's your take on the HEAT, your first impression?
Ford: "It's a first-class organization, I really enjoyed
myself. I felt I came here and learned a lot - a lot of things I can take back
home and really work on on my own. They've been real great to me, respecting me
and giving me the opportunity to be here."
The size factor: now in the NBA it seems the short and fast guards, penetrating and
kicking...the way the game's going right now, do you feel it is in your favor?
Ford: "I just want to come here and try to do the best I can. I know it's a tough
league because you're going against talented people every night. Whichever team chooses me on
June 26 knows that they will get a hard worker, a guy that's going to come in and really just
try his best to fit in with the program...I know what I am capable of doing...I know I am capable
of shooting the ball well, and I showcased that this season by putting up some numbers
throughout a lot of different games."
What is this whole pre-draft process like? Is it taxing? Is there a lot of pressure
on you?
Ford: "It's tough mentally knowing that this is your life. But then again, it's also
fun. I look at it as fun, it's a learning experience, something you're only going to go
through once." Aside from the fact that whoever takes you is going to pay you a lot of money, how is this different from when you were going through recruiting in high school? Ford: "Coming out of high school it goes back to the coaches selling themselves, selling you their story of coming to their university. Now, it's actually me coming out showing my work ethic and what type of person I am and selling myself to organizations...it's a lot of fun, I am enjoying every minute of it." |
