Draft 2003: Q and A with Steve BlakeJun 12 2003 10:15AM
What is this time like for you? Blake: “This is the best time of my life, I am trying to prove myself to NBA teams and to be able to achieve my goal. I am enjoying every minute of it - for them to bring me in here and work out in these facilities, it’s remarkable.” You played high school ball here (Miami), and obviously the HEAT have an interest in you or you wouldn’t be here…how cool would it be to be able to come back here and play? Blake: “It would be amazing. I grew up watching the HEAT from when they first started, coming to games. It would great to be around my family here and my friends. If I could play here it would just be a dream come true. Is there someone in the league now that you think your game is similar to? Blake: “It’s hard to say. Right now, there’s guys I want to strive to be like, guys like Steve Nash, Jason Kidd. Jason Kidd is my favorite player in the NBA, the way he makes his teammates better, he really can pass the ball and that’s one thing I love to do…So I’d love to strive to one day be like him. If a team takes you, what is it that is going to draw them to you? What’s one selling point to them? Blake: “I’m a pure point guard, and everywhere I’ve been, I’ve always won games. I’ve won in high school and in college, and I am going to take that right in to the next level. I am going to keep winning wherever I’m at. If they take a chance on me, then they’ll know they’re getting someone consistent, play hard every play, make the teammates better, someone to come in and win games.” |
