Year Long Celebration Kicks-Off With One-of-A-Kind Sit-In Contest
MIAMI, FL (November 12, 2009) – On December 31st, the AmericanAirlines Arena will officially celebrate 10 years of award-winning performances, guest service and renowned fan experience in South Florida. As Miami’s most notable catalyst for downtown growth and revitalization, the Arena is widely recognized for its many “best practices” throughout the sports and entertainment industry as well as the leading venue for Miami’s vibrant and eclectic community.
As part of the festivities leading up to the 10th Anniversary, Arena executives announced the launch of the “AmericanAirlines Arena 10th Anniversary Sit-In” contest, which gives participants a chance to win FREE tickets to EVERY event that will be hosted at AmericanAirlines Arena during its 10th Anniversary year—beginning with the Phish concert on December 31, 2009 and ending on December 31, 2010.*
“AmericanAirlines Arena has a tradition of hosting interactive contests and events that require fans to show their love and stamina in order to win great prizes,” said Michael McCullough, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of The HEAT Group. “So we came up with what we think is the ultimate contest: teams of four will have 24 hours to sit in every single Arena seat to win the ultimate prize of four tickets to every AmericanAirlines Arena event.”
To participate, teams must register by December 3, 2009 at www.aaarena.com. The Sit-In will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. on December 4. A Grand Prize of four tickets to every event hosted at the arena will be awarded to the team that completes the contest within 24 hours. In the event of multiple teams completing the Sit-In contest, a Miami HEAT trivia tiebreaker will be conducted to determine the Grand Prize winner. If no team(s) completes the task, all teams remaining eligible at the end of the 24 hour period will participate in a trivia contest to determine the Grand Prize winner.
Contestants may assemble a team consisting of up to four (4) team members, with a two member team being the minimum team size requirement. Only one team member is permitted to be the active team member sitting in the Arena seats at any one time. The active team member may “tag” one of his teammates at the designated location(s) when they wish to switch active team members. The contest will begin with all participating teams selecting one member and having that team member begin sitting in each seat, following the predetermined course outlined by AmericanAirlines Arena staff prior to the start of the contest. A team member may only spend up to five (5) seconds in each arena seat before moving on the next seat. Teams will be disqualified if their team member spends more than five (5) seconds in any particular seat, as determined by the AmericanAirlines Arena staff. In the event the contest needs to be stopped at any time, all teams will be required to stop and the contest will resume as directed by AmericanAirlines Arena staff.
All team members completing the minimum of the three (3) pre-determined designated seating sections will each receive two (2) tickets to an upcoming Miami HEAT home game during the 2009-10 season. For a complete list of rules, please visit www.AAArena.com.
AmericanAirlines Arena History
The Arena’s long list of memorable moments range from the venue’s first concert on December 31, 1999 with Gloria Estefan to the 2006 Miami HEAT Championship Celebration to its LEED Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council earlier this year. The venue also has hosted major events throughout the years, including the Latin Grammy Awards Shows, MTV Video Music Awards and Univision’s Premio Lo Nuestro.
AmericanAirlines Arena recently unveiled a series of upgrades and renovations starting with its MiamiMediaMesh, a first-of-its-kind energy-efficient digital media façade that covers 3,400 square feet of the building’s west face and has transformed downtown Miami into Times Square South. In addition, joining forces with industry leaders Sony Electronics for high definition (HD) communications, Bruce Mau Design for partner innovation and Juniper Networks for high-speed data networking, the Arena has become a national state-of-the-art showpiece to deliver South Florida’s most technologically advanced, versatile and engaging fan experience.
*In the case of multiple shows for the same event, four tickets will be distributed for only one show of the particular event.
