HEAT to Unveil Learn & Play Center
Newest Center Increases Total Number Of Learn & Play Centers Built By HEAT To Six
MIAMI, FL As part of its ongoing commitment to improving the South Florida community, Miami HEAT players Mark Blount and James Jones, the HEAT Dancers, and Burnie will unveil the renovation of a HEAT Learn & Play Center at His House Childrens Home (HHCH) in the Horizon Building located at 20000 N.W. 47th Avenue, Miami Gardens 33055 on Wednesday, February 25 from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Alongside presenting sponsor BlueCross BlueShield of Florida, the HEAT will renovate the Horizon Buildings existing game room and computer lab with new furniture, new hardwood flooring, a 50 flat-panel plasma TV, an XBox 360 game console, a Pop-A-Shot, and new computers donated through the generous support of the teams partnership with HP. The HEAT and HP share the belief that innovation in education is vital to developing the next generation of high tech leaders and entrepreneurs, and that technology can help transform the learning experience.
This is the sixth Learn and Play Center the Miami HEAT has had the pleasure of unveiling over the past five years, said Eric Woolworth, President of the HEAT Groups Business Operations. The idea behind these centers is to make them inviting places where children can work, play, and bond in a safe environment.
A press conference will tip off the event promptly at 3:30 p.m. followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Afterward, Blount and Jones, Eric Woolworth, HEAT Group President of Business Operations and Jason Jackson, Sun Sports sideline reporter, as well as representatives from BlueCross BlueShield of Florida will interact with the kids from HHCH in the new HEAT Learn & Play Center. All media must meet at HHCH, 20000 N.W. 47th Avenue, Hector Building No. 2, Miami Gardens by 3:15 p.m.
We are extraordinarily proud of our continuing partnership with the Miami HEAT and our shared commitment to the community, said BlueCross and BlueShield of Florida Market President Penny Shaffer. These Learn and Play Centers are truly special places. They offer children a warm and nurturing place to read, relax, and just be kids.
This Learn & Play Center unveiling represents the latest activity from the Miami HEAT under the NBA Cares initiative. The other five existing HEAT Learn & Play Centers are located at:
- HEAT Academy @ Dunbar Elementary (2004)
- HEAT Academy @ Little River Elementary (2006)
- Community Partnership for Homeless (2007)
- HEAT Academy @ Riverside Elementary (2007)
- Bucky Dent Gymnasium (2008)
About His House Childrens Home
Established in 1989, His House Childrens Home (HHCH) is a private, non-profit, faith-based organization whose mission is to defend the cause of the weak and fatherless by providing excellent residential, case management, foster care, adoption and counseling services to the children of South Florida from newborn to 18 years of age in crisis and support for their families. The agency is licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families, contracted by Our Kids Inc. and Child-Net, Inc. in Broward as a residential program and child-placement agency. The organization is a frontline provider of residential services when an abused child comes into care. Most recently, His House has been recognized and accredited by the national Council on Accreditation (COA). Its model is unlike your typical shelter. Each home is staffed with loving house parents and supportive caregivers. Today HHCH provides a safe haven for over 60 children in shelter and over 325 in foster care. His House is a healing place giving wounded children a warm loving home and renewed hope for a brighter future. We are coloring away the darkness in little hearts all over South Florida.
