HEAT Announces Winners Of 48 Hours Of Intense HEAT Promotion

The Miami HEAT announced the winners of the 48 Hours of Intense HEAT promotion, where fans were asked to stay seated in front of the AmericanAirlines Arena for 48 consecutive hours. The promotion began on Thursday, April 23 at 5:00 p.m. and continued until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, April 25, immediately prior to the start of Game 3 of the HEAT vs. Hawks First Round playoff series.

The competition began with a total of 75 contestants, 53 who sat for at least the first four consecutive hours and who were rewarded with a pair of tickets to Game 4 of the HEAT vs. Hawks playoff series. The final group of 22 contestants endured the sun, heat and wind, as well as fatigue, discomfort and endless heckling by HEAT staffers to earn a pair of playoff tickets to every HEAT home game during the 2009 HEAT Black is Back Playoffs. The 22 finalists were asked a single “sudden death” HEAT trivia question: In the entire history of the Miami HEAT franchise, how many HEAT players have played in at least one regular season HEAT game? Felipe Lopez of Miami became the Grand Prize Winner after having answered 189 (the correct answer is 176). Aldo Balsano and Gerardo G. DeArmas were next closest by answering 190 and 150, respectively.

Lopez’s Grand Prize package includes a pair of Lower Level tickets to all 2009 HEAT Black is Back Playoffs home games, located in Section 104, Row 14, Seats 3 and 4 for Game 3, a pair of 2009-10 Lower Level Season Tickets, plus free parking and free concessions for each game during the 2009-10 season, a seven-day cruise for two on Carnival Cruise Lines, an autographed 2008-09 HEAT team basketball, and a $200 gift certificate to Miami Hoops Gear, the official team store.

During the 48 Hours promotion, contestants participated in numerous contests and activities to earn individual and group “breaks” from sitting by spinning the 48 Hours of Intense HEAT Prize Wheel. Contestants were randomly chosen to spin the Prize Wheel which included the HEAT Dancers Pool, the Kia Soul Chill Out, the InterContinental Hotel Bed and Spa Breaks, HEAT Trivia Contests, HEAT Karaoke, Group Sing-A-Longs and Water Balloon Tosses. Prizes that were awarded during the competition included a two-day, one-night stay at Epic Hotel, Samsung Glyde mobile phones, courtesy of Verizon Wireless, and Hard Rock Cafe Bayside promotional items.

During the 48 Hours of Intense HEAT promotion, contestant dined on traditional arena fare from Levy Restaurants, including hot dogs and popcorn, Papa John’s pizza, Hard Rock Cafe, and McDonald’s. Gatorade and bottled water, courtesy of Miccosukee Resort & Gaming, was also provided. HEAT Players Dwyane Wade, Michael Beasley, Daequan Cook and James Jones made a cameo appearance after practice on Friday, April 24 to encourage the contestants by signing autographs and taking photos with them. Contestants also interacted with the four-time “Most Popular Dance Team in the NBA,” the Miami HEAT Dancers, as well as the Xtreme Team, and Burnie, the HEAT Mascot.
