HEAT Visits the Eiffel Tower

Paris, 10/9 – Before the HEAT began their morning shoot-around to prepare for Thursday night’s contest against the New Jersey Nets at Bercy Arena, the team took a detour to the visit one of Paris’ most recognizable landmarks, the Eiffel Tower.

The Eiffel Tower was completed in 1889 and is still the largest building in Paris. The HEAT players took team photos in front of the historic French monument and met with guests. Dwyane Wade compared his experience at the Eiffel Tower to an American historical landmark.

“Looking at the Eiffel Tower is like looking at the Statue of Liberty,” said Wade “It’s a symbol, a monument, and a piece of history. You will always remember it.”

Interesting Facts About the Eiffel Tower

  • The Eiffel Tower was named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel.
  • More than 200,000,000 people have visited the tower since its construction in 1889 making it the most visited paid monument in the world.
  • Including the 79 foot antenna, the Eiffel Tower is 1,063 feet high which is equivalent to about 81 levels in a conventional building.

When the tower was completed in 1889, it was the world's tallest tower — a title it retained until 1930 when New York City’s Chrysler Building (1,047 feet tall) was completed. The Eiffel Tower is now the fifth-tallest structure in France and the tallest structure in Paris.
