Miami Heat's Michael Beasley key to the future
Starting at small forward…Michael Beasley.
Miami Heat: Wade, not Bryant, should have been 2nd in MVP vote
Miami Heat likely to tweak, not revamp, roster this summer
Time for a small step for Beasley?
VS ATLANTA: The HEAT are facing the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the 2009 NBA Playoffs. The HEAT and Hawks have faced each other during postseason play on only one prior occasion, a first round meeting in the 1994 NBA Playoffs. Atlanta won that series, 3-2, after Miami held a 2- 1 advantage heading into Game 4.
B-EASY: Michael Beasley’s 18 points off the HEAT bench on 4/29 at ATL marked as the most points scored by a rookie off the HEAT bench in postseason history. The previous record was 16 points held by Eddie House during Game One of the 2001 NBA Playoffs vs. the Charlotte Hornets on 4/21/01. Below you will find the top rookie scoring efforts off the HEAT bench in postseason history.
| 18 | Michael Beasley | 4/29/09 at ATL |

percent (15-of-26) from downtown. That marks as the first time in HEAT postseason history that they have connected on at least 50 percent from
three-point range in consecutive games. Additionally, the HEAT has shot at least 50 percent from beyond the arc on 13 occasions in postseason
franchise history, going 11-2 in those games.
PLAYOFF POINTS: Udonis Haslem now ranks fifth on the HEAT’s all-time postseason points scored list with 447 points. This postseason Udonis has passed both Jamal Mashburn and Eddie Jones on Miami’s all-time postseason scoring list. Additionally, Dwyane Wade holds the franchise mark. Below you will find the top franchise postseason scorers.

NBA FIRST: Dwyane Wade and Daequan Cook became the first set of teammates to connect on at least six made three-point baskets in NBA
postseason history in their 108-93 victory at ATL on 4/22. Wade shot 6-of-10 from beyond the arc on his way to recording a game-high 33 points as
Cook went 6-of-9 from three-point range scoring 20 points from the HEAT bench.

CLEANING THE GLASS: Michael Beasley’s 10 rebounds on 4/19 at ATL marked as the most ever by a HEAT rookie during the postseason. In his next game, Beasley grabbed seven boards, which is tied for the fourth most by a HEAT rookie. Below you will find the top rebounding efforts by a HEAT rookie during the postseason.
| Michael Beasley | 10 | 4/19/09 at ATL |

FREE-FOUR-ALL: James Jones hit a pair of four-point plays on consecutive possessions in a span of 11 seconds on 4/27 vs. ATL (2:26 left in the
2nd Q and 2:15 left in the 2nd Q). Since 3/23/05, a span of 386 games (341 regular season and 45 playoff games included) prior to last night, the
HEAT recorded just two four-point plays (Dwyane Wade at LAL on 2/28/08 and Mario Chalmers at MEM on 12/14/08). The last time the HEAT had
two-or-more four-point plays in the same season was 2004-05 when Miami registered three four-point plays, two of which came in the same game
(3/22/05 at HOU: Eddie Jones with 4:31 left in the 4th Q and Damon Jones with 0:14.3 left in the 4th Q). The Houston game marks the last time
Miami had a pair of four-point plays in the same game. Additionally, HEAT assistant coach Keith Askins had two four-point plays 51 seconds apart in
the SEC championship game for Alabama against Florida on 3/12/89. Askins hit four straight shots from 3-point range in a span of just over two
minutes, getting fouled on the last two, for 14 consecutive second-half points that helped lift the Crimson Tide to a 72-60 victory.
ROAD WARRIORS: The HEAT’s 15-point, 108-93, victory at ATL on 4/22 marked as Miami’s largest margin of victory during the postseason on the
road since a 17-point, 113-96, win at CHI on 5/4/06. It also tied as the third largest margin of victory on the road in HEAT postseason history. Below
are the top five road performances in HEAT postseason franchise history.
| 19 | 91-72 | 4/29/00 at DET |
| 17 | 113-96 | 5/4/06 at CHI |
| 15 | 108-93 | 4/22/09 at ATL |
| 15 | 87-72 | 5/14/99 at NY |
| 13 | 110-97 | 5/1/05 at NJ |
BUCKETS: In Miami’s, 108-93, win on 4/22 at ATL, the HEAT shot 55.6 percent (40-of-72) from the field, 57.7 percent (15-of-26) from three-point
range and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the foul line. That marks as the first time in HEAT postseason history that Miami has shot at least 55 percent
from the field, 55 percent from three-point range and 70 percent from the foul line. Only one other time in HEAT postseason history has Miami shot
at least 55 percent from both the field and three-point range and that occurred during the 2005 NBA Playoffs against New Jersey on 4/24/05 when
they shot 59.2 percent (42-of-71) from the field and 60.0 percent (9-of-15) from three-point range. Additionally, the 15 made three-point field goals
mark as a new postseason franchise record, the previous high was 13 made three-point field goals vs. Orlando on 4/24/97.
DEBUT: Michael Beasley’s 10 rebounds off the HEAT bench on 4/19 at ATL set a new franchise postseason record for rebounds by a HEAT rookie
during a single game. The previous mark was nine held by Udonis Haslem vs. New Orleans on 4/21/04. Beasley’s 10-point effort in the same game
tied as the fourth best playoff debut by a HEAT rookie. His 10 points tied Anthony Carter’s postseason rookie 10-point debut from 4/22/00 vs. Detroit.
Additionally, Beasley became just the fifth HEAT player to record a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) in his postseason debut on 4/19, joining
former players Rony Seikaly, Brian Grant, Lamar Odom and Shaquille O’Neal. His double-double also marked as the first HEAT postseason doubledouble
off the HEAT bench since James Posey recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds off the HEAT bench in the NBA Finals vs. Dallas on 6/15/06.
NBA PLAYOFFS: The HEAT clinched its 13th postseason berth in franchise history and its fifth in six years, with their win on 4/3 at CHA. This marks
as Miami’s 11th postseason appearance over the last 14 years. Only Detroit, which has earned 12 postseason berths, has made more postseason
appearances in the Eastern Conference than the HEAT over the last 14 years. Only one other Eastern Conference team, Indiana, has even hit
double-figures in postseason appearances with 10 over the past 14 years. Coming into this postseason, the HEAT are 53-53 in postseason play (37-
19 at home and 16-34 on the road).
POSTSEASON HISTORY: Assistant Coach Keith Askins and Assistant Coach/Strength and Conditioning Bill Foran are the only two players and/or
coaches that have been involved in all 22 playoff series (including this one against Atlanta) in HEAT history. Askins has been involved in eight as a
player and now 14 as an assistant coach.
MAKING HISTORY: After clinching a playoff berth with their win at CHA on 4/3, the HEAT became just the second team in NBA history to make the
playoffs after winning 15-or-fewer games the previous season. The HEAT finished last season with a 15-67 record. The only other team to
accomplish that feat was the San Diego Rockets who went 15-67 in 1967-68 and made the playoffs during the 1968-69 season with a 37-45 record.
HEAT President Pat Riley was a member of those San Diego Rockets teams.
