Daequan Heat scored 16 points to help the HEAT snap a two-game skid and move into a fifth-place tie with Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference.

Charlotte’s Emeka Okafor tied for the team lead with 16 points, as five Bobcats scored in double-figures. Charlotte led by six, 45-39, at halftime and stretched their lead in the third quarter to 20 with tough defense. The HEAT turned the ball over six times and shot just 15 percent from the field (2-for-13) during the third and was outscored 23-9 in the quarter’s last seven minutes. The HEAT did gain some ground in the fourth, going on a 17-7 run with 5:15 remaining, but Charlotte defense allowed only one field goal for the rest of the contest to send Miami to its second-straight loss of the preseason.

Charlotte took its largest lead of the night, 52-39, with 11:38 remaining in the third, but the HEAT outscored the Bobcats the rest of the period, 31-18, to tie the score at 70 heading into the final quarter. Charlotte held Miami to 33 percent shooting in the fourth and took a three-point lead, 94-91, with 12.0 seconds left after Brevin Knight connected on one of two free throws. Miami had one last chance to win or tie the game. Wade, who pulled the HEAT to within two by knocking down one of two free throws, grabbed the rebound from his missed free throw, but his 3-pointer at the buzzer missed the mark.

Rookie Emeka Okafor led the Bobcats with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds to record his 19th straight double-double. Theron Smith’s two free throws with 3:32 remaining in the second period cut Miami’s lead to two, 41-39, before Wade and the HEAT took over. Wade’s jumper sparked a 9-0 run, part of a 12- 4 run to close the half, capped off by Wade’s off-balanced 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the HEAT a 55-43 halftime advantage. Wade scored nine of his 16 first-half points during the HEAT’s late-quarter run. The HEAT led by as many as 24 points, but Jason Kapono’s 3-pointer trimmed the Bobcats’ deficit to 15 late in the fourth period. The HEAT responded with an 11-2 run to secure the win.
