Miami defeats the Cavaliers, 77-75, at Gund Arena in Cleveland to earn Pat Riley his
350th victory as coach of the HEAT. With the victory, Riley became the only coach in
NBA history to register at least 350 coaching victories with two different franchises.
Previously he had recorded 533 victories while guiding the Lakers from 1981-90. |

HEAT forward Caron Butler was named the NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the
Month for the fourth time this season and third consecutive month. Butler joined
Tim Duncan (1997-98); Shaquille O'Neal (1992-93); David Robinson (1989-90);
Ralph Sampson (1983-84) and Terry Cummings (1982-83) as the only players in
NBA history to capture four-or-more Rookie of the Month honors since the league
began the award in the 1981-82 season. |

A record crowd of 20,152 attended the HEAT's home game against the Washington
Wizards in the AmericanAirlines Arena. The 20,152 in attendance are the most ever
at a HEAT home game and set a record for a professional basketball game in the
state of Florida. The game marked Michael Jordan's final game in Miami. Prior to
the game during a tribute to Jordan, HEAT President and Head Coach Pat Riley announced the HEAT was retiring number 23 in honor of Jordan. The number 23 is
the first and only number to be retired in franchise history. With his 17th point of the
evening, a jumper with 6:59 left in the second quarter, Jordan assured himself of
finishing his NBA career with the highest single-game scoring average in league
history. With his first point in the game, a jumper with 1:29 left in the first quarter,
Caron Butler broke the HEAT rookie single-season scoring record (1,155) which had
been held by Sherman Douglas. |

HEAT forward Caron Butler finished third in the Rookie of the Year balloting,
becoming the first HEAT rookie to ever receive a Rookie of the Year vote. Butler
finished with 13 first-place votes, nine second-place votes and 87 third-place votes
for a total of 179 points in the voting of 117 media members. The 13 first-place
votes were the most by a third-place finisher since Shareef Abdur-Rahim garnered
25 in the 1996-97 Rookie of the Year voting. |

HEAT forward Caron Butler was selected as a member of the 2002-03 NBA All-
Rookie Team. Butler became only the third HEAT player to earn First Team All-Rookie
honors and his 55 points and 27 first team votes are the most by a player in HEAT
franchise history. Butler, who was named on all 28 ballots submitted by the NBA
head coaches, was one point shy of being a unanimous First Team selection. |
