January 7   HEAT guard Eddie Jones is named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 6.
January 10 Guard Anthony Carter undergoes successful surgery to repair a sports hernia.
January 10 Guard Jim Jackson became the 233rd player in NBA history to score his 10,000th career point when he accomplished the feat with 6:14 remaining in the first quarter of Miami's game against Portland.
January 22 Guard Rod Strickland moved into sole possession of seventh place on the NBA's all-time assists list, surpassing Lenny Wilkens, with his first assist of the night and 7,212nd of his career with 8:54 remaining in the opening quarter of Miami's 92-79 home victory over Chicago.
January 29 Center Alonzo Mourning is selected as a reserve for the 2002 Eastern Conference All-Star team. This marks the seventh time in Mourning's career he has been named an NBA All-Star and the fifth time as a member of the HEAT.
February 1 Activated forward/center Sean Marks from the injured list and placed forward Malik Allen (patella tendinitis, right knee) on the injured list.
Febraury 10 Center Alonzo Mourning hits six of his seven field goal attempts at the All-Star Game in Philadelphia and finishes with 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 16 minutes as the Eastern Conference All-Stars were defeated by the Western Conference All-Stars, 135-120.
Febraury 13 Radio announcer José Pañeda broadcasts his 1,000th HEAT game in Spanish as Miami defeats the Magic, 112-95 at the AmericanAirlines Arena. Pañeda, who has broadcast every HEAT regular season game beginning with the 1989-90 season, has broadcast more NBA games in Spanish than any other announcer in league history.
Febraury 23 The HEAT placed guard Eddie House (right quad contusion) on the injured list and activated guard Anthony Carter from the injured list.
Febraury 28 The HEAT placed forward LaPhonso Ellis (adductor strain) on the injured list and activated forward Malik Allen from the injured list.
March 5 The HEAT activated guard Eddie House from the injured list and placed guard Mike James (bilateral patella tendinitis) on the injured list.
March 15 Television play-by-play announcer Eric Reid, who has been with the HEAT since its inaugural season, broadcasts his 1,000th HEAT regular season game as the Nets defeat Miami, 97-78, at the Continental Airlines Arena in New Jersey.
March 19 Activated forward LaPhonso Ellis from the injured list and placed forward Malik Allen (bilateral patella tendinitis) on the injured list.
March 19 The Philadelphia 76ers defeat the HEAT, 91-79, before a sellout crowd of 16,500 in the 100th regular season game played at the AmericanAirlines Arena.
March 23 Guard Rod Strickland moved past Maurice Cheeks into sixth place on the NBA's all-time assist list in the HEAT's contest at San Antonio with his third assist of the game and 7,393rd of his career with 2.8 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
March 29 Activated forward Malik Allen from the injured list and placed guard Jim Jackson (high ankle sprain, right foot) on the injured list.
March 31 Trainer Ron Culp works the 2,500th game of his career as the Pacers defeat the HEAT at Conseco Fieldhouse.
April 3 The HEAT's LaPhonso Ellis is named the winner of the NBA's 2001-02 Atlantic Division Sportsmanship Award, designed to honor a player who best represents the ideals of sportsmanship on the court. This marks the second time in his career that Ellis has been named a divisional award winner and the first time a HEAT player has received the honor.
April 12 Placed forward LaPhonso Ellis (right knee inflammation) and forward/center Chris Gatling (mild concussion) on the injured list and activated center Ernest Brown and guard Mike James from the injured list.
May 2 The HEAT's Alonzo Mourning is named the recipient of the NBA's 2001-02 J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award for his outstanding community service.
June 7 Assistant Coach/Director of Player Development Marc Iavaroni resigns to become an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns.
June 26 The HEAT select University of Connecticut forward Caron Butler with the 10th pick of the 2002 NBA Draft and La Salle University forward Rasual Butler with the 53rd pick of the 2002 NBA Draft.
July 3 The HEAT sign forward Caron Butler.
August 6 The HEAT re-signs free agent center Vladimir Stepania.
August 14 The HEAT signs forward Rasual Butler.
August 15 The HEAT signs free agent guard Luke Recker.
September 5 The HEAT signed free agent guard Travis Best.
September 12 The HEAT announce due to a drop in his body chemistry levels, center Alonzo Mourning will be out indefinitely.
September 25 The HEAT re-signed guard Eddie House.

September 30 The HEAT signed free agent forward Sean Lampley.
October 10 The HEAT announced former NBA head coach and current TNT NBA analyst Mike Fratello joined its television broadcast team to provide analysis for 60 games during the 2002-03 season. The team also announced Ed Pinckney will serve as the team's color analyst for the remaining 22 television broadcasts and take a new role within the organization as Team Mentor. Pinckney will also provide analysis for home radio broadcasts when he is not working on the television broadcast.

October 28 Released guard Luke Recker and placed center Alonzo Mourning (focal glomerulosclerosis), center Ken Johnson (left knee patella tendonitis) and forward Sean Lampley (left foot sprain) on the injured list.
November 14 Center/forward Sean Marks underwent successful surgery at Cedar's Hospital. Marks had a plantar fascia release of his right foot performed by HEAT physician Dr. James Losito.
November 15 Activated center Ken Johnson from the injured list and placed center/forward Sean Marks (plantar fasciitis, right foot) on the injured list.
November 29 Activated forward Sean Lampley from the injured list and placed center Ken Johnson (left knee patella tendonitis) on the injured list.
December 2 HEAT forward Caron Butler is named the NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for the month of November. Butler became the first HEAT rookie to ever capture NBA Rookie of the Month honors.
December 13 Activated center Ken Johnson from the injured list and placed guard Eddie House on the injured list with a stress reaction of his right fibula.
December 22 Activated center/forward Sean Marks from the injured list and placed center Ken Johnson on the injured list with a lower back strain.
