January 3   Pat Riley is named the IBM Coach of the Month for the month of December after guiding the HEAT to a 12-5 record in December. This marks an NBA-record ninth time in his career Riley has won Coach of the Month honors, the third time he has won the award with the HEAT.
January 4 HEAT activate guard Anthony Carter from the injured list and place forward Don MacLean (left quadriceps tendinitis) on the injured list.
January 13 Guard Tim Hardaway becomes Miami's all-time leader in three-point field goals made when he hits his 709th trey as a member of the HEAT with 1:31 left in the third quarter at Indiana, to surpass guard/forward Glen Rice.
January 25 Eric Woolworth is named President of The HEAT Group's Business Operations.
January 30 Forward Anthony Mason is selected as a reserve for the 2001 Eastern Conference All-Star team. At 34 years and two months old, Mason is the second oldest firsttime All-Star in NBA history, just a month younger than Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton was in 1957.
January 30 HEAT activate forward Don MacLean from the injured list and place center Todd Fuller (left knee patella tendinitis) on the injured list.
February 2 Miami records a 91-80 victory over the Hawks in Atlanta. The game is the 1,000th in HEAT regular season history. Trainer Ron Culp is the only member of the organization to be present at all 1,000 games.
Febraury 6 HEAT team physician Dr. Harlan Selesnick was selected the team physician for the Western Conference All-Stars for the 2001 NBA All-Star Game.
Febraury 11 Forward Anthony Mason becomes just the second HEAT player to start an NBA All-Star Game. Mason starts in place of an injured Grant Hill and although he went scoreless he finishes with four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 20 minutes as the Eastern Conference All-Stars defeat the Western Conference All- Stars, 111-110, at the MCI Center in Washington.
March 7 HEAT activate guard Ricky Davis from the injured list and place guard Eddie Jones (dislocated left shoulder) on the injured list.
March 27 Center Alonzo Mourning, who was expected to miss the entire 2000-01 season due to a kidney disease (focal glomerulosclerosis), announces he will return for the remainder of the regular season and postseason after missing the first 69 games of the season. Miami activates Mourning from the injured list and places forward Don MacLean (left quadriceps tendinitis) on the injured list. Toronto defeats Miami, 88-83, at the AmericanAirlines Arena as Mourning scores nine points and grabs six rebounds in 19 minutes in his 2000-01 season debut.
April 3 Center Todd Fuller is activated from the injured list and center Duane Causwell (left ankle sprain) is placed on the injured list.
April 10 Guard Eddie Jones is activated from the injured list and center Todd Fuller (left knee patella tendinitis) is placed on the injured list.
April 11 With 1:33 remaining in the fourth quarter of Miami's 102-97 win at Boston, center Alonzo Mourning blocks an Antoine Walker shot attempt. The block is Mourning's 1,000th as a member of the HEAT.
April 15 Center Duane Causwell is activated from the injured list and guard Tim Hardaway (bruised left foot) is placed on the injured list.
April 18 Forward Don MacLean is activated from the injured list and forward Anthony Mason (left ankle sprain) is placed on the injured list.
April 18 Forward A.C. Green scores 19 points and grabs 14 rebounds in Miami's 103-91 win at Orlando to record his 300th career double-double.
April 19 HEAT leaves guard Ricky Davis, forward Don MacLean and center Todd Fuller off the playoff roster.
May 2 Forward Bruce Bowen is named a member of the 2000-01 NBA All-Defensive Second Team.
May 3 Forward Don MacLean undergoes successful surgery performed on his left quadriceps tendon.
May 9 Guard Eddie Jones undergoes successful surgery on his left shoulder.
May 22 Center Alonzo Mourning was named a second team selection on the NBA All- Interview team for the 2000-01 season.
June 20 Forward Don MacLean exercises an option to extend his contract for the 2001-02 season.
June 27 The HEAT select Ohio State University center Ken Johnson with the 49th pick of the 2001 NBA Draft.
June 29 Guard Ricky Davis undergoes successful surgery to repair a fractured right foot.
July 19 HEAT re-signs guard Anthony Carter.
July 20 HEAT sign free agent forward Malik Allen and free agent guard Mike James.
July 28 HEAT sign free agent forward LaPhonso Ellis.
August 5 HEAT sign free agent guard/forward Kendall Gill.
August 13 The HEAT announces a three-year television deal with WFOR (Channel 4) and UPN 33 to air games locally.
August 22 The HEAT traded guard Tim Hardaway to Dallas in a sign-and-trade deal in which they acquired a second-round draft choice in either 2003 or 2004 and a trade exception.

October 26 The HEAT acquired forward/center Chris Gatling in a three-team sign-and-trade with Cleveland and Toronto. Miami received Gatling from Cleveland, Cleveland received guard Ricky Davis from Miami and forward Brian Skinner from Toronto, and Toronto received forward Don MacLean from Miami.
October 29 The HEAT released forward Sean Lampley and placed forward Malik Allen (sprained right ankle), center Ernest Brown (jammed right thumb) and forward/center Chris Gatling (conditioning) on the injured list.
November 6 The HEAT defeated Seattle, 87-85 in overtime, at the AmericanAirlines Arena to record the 500th win in franchise history.
November 9 Guard/forward Kendall Gill underwent successful surgery to repair a fractured left pinky.

November 30 A then record crowd of 20,118 attend the HEAT's home game against the Washington Wizards in the AmericanAirlines Arena. The game marked Michael Jordan's first game back in Miami after his retirement on Jan. 13, 1999.
December 2 The HEAT signed free agent guard Jim Jackson and released forward Tang Hamilton.
December 4 Activated forward Brian Grant from the injured list and placed forward Malik Allen (quadriceps tendinitis, left leg) on the injured list.
December 12 Center Alonzo Mourning moves into 15th place on the NBA's all-time blocked shots list, surpassing Moses Malone, when he blocks a Brendan Haywood attempt with 8:13 left in the second quarter at the MCI Center in Washington. The block is the 1,734th of Mourning's career.
December 13 The HEAT released forward Sam Mack.
December 14 Activated guard/forward Kendall Gill from the injured list.
December 18 The HEAT signed guard Mike James and placed forward/center Sean Marks (cervical strain) on the injured list.
December 21 Placed guard Anthony Carter (lower abdominal strain) on the injured list and activated forward Malik Allen from the injured list.
