HEAT Dancers Shake Up the Lone Star State

Our very own HEAT Dancers recently descended on the quiet town of Odessa, Texas for a weekend of whirlwind activity including performances, autograph signings, photographs and mingling with the friendly community.

On January 16, six lucky ladies—Yesenia, Ashley, Celina, Traci, Maidelin, and Summer—delighted in receiving celebrity-like treatment. They were greeted at the Odessa airport by local reporters and TV cameras, and shortly thereafter, were whisked away in a stretch limo that would rival any seen on South Beach.

Odessa College’s athletic director John Wilfert wanted to heat up his halftime entertainment and invited the Dancers to perform for local fans at the game featuring the Odessa College Wranglers vs. the South Plains College Texans. Odessa fans cheered with delight when rookie HEAT Dancer Celina belted out a sultry a cappella rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at the onset of the game.

The next evening, the squad was off to Graham Central Station, an enormous venue comprised of five separate clubs, each playing different genres of music to an eclectic crowd. The ladies performed various routines and signed autographs for approximately 200 local cowboys and cowgirls—all who were tickled by the presence of our spirited and sexy Dancers.

“The dancers and I experienced big warmth and hospitality from a small town. The people that we met through our stay will always have a place in our hearts for their welcoming attitudes and attentiveness,” said Yesenia, a second year veteran of the squad.

On January 18, the last day of their visit, the Dancers enjoyed hosting a clinic for approximately 100 young, aspiring dancers and cheerleaders. They enthusiastically taught the girls, ages 6 and up, a few cool moves, participated in a Q & A about the rigorously busy life of the NBA dancer, signed countless autographs and took photos with many of these bright eyed admirers.

Of the clinic, parent Kathy Trujillo said, “I wonder if the ladies realize what an influence they can really be in a young child's life. Watching them and hearing them say ‘don't give up and keep dancing’ really put a sparkle in my daughter’s eye. BRAVO to them for following their dreams.”

The HEAT Dancers are enjoying their 15th season as one of the NBA’s premier and most talented dance squads. They are available for hire for corporate gatherings, community events, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs and the like.
