On Saturday, September 1st, Alonzo Mourning, All-star center of the Miami HEAT, embarked on his newest business venture; CUTZ Barber Shop. Mourning was on hand celebrating the grand opening of CUTZ, an establishment he recently invested in with personal barber, Peter Bethel.

Mourning's purpose in creating CUTZ was not only to continue his investment in the City of Miami, but to create a meeting place in the community where people, specifically men, would come together for lively discussions. "I remember going to barber shops growing up where old and young men used that opportunity to exchange ideas and engage in lively conversations that range from politics to sports. I want to create that same environment," Mourning says. In choosing the decor of the shop he continues, "CUTZ has a lounge type feel to it...I want people to feel relaxed and comfortable, as if they were sitting in their family room or den. I have photographs of Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Malcom X and other famous African-American figures because history is very important to me and I wanted to reflect that in the shop."

As with all of Mourning's endeavors, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Alonzo Mourning Charities, Inc. Mourning also plans to work with the Department of Children and Families to develop a free haircut program for neighboring communities.
