HEAT HP Digital Assist Visit Event

For 50 middle school students a “special activity” turned into a day to remember as HP, the NBA, Miami HEAT and International Society for Technology in Education hosted the HP Digital Assist Early Submission Grant visit at Shenandoah Middle School.

The event was the second installment of HP events in Miami, where Shenandoah Middle School was the first of 20 schools in Miami-Dade County that submitted a qualified project for the competition, in hopes of helping their school win more than $80,000 in HP mobile digital classroom technology.

The students at Shenandoah Middle School worked for several weeks on multimedia projects to submit for the HP Digital Assist Program. With the use of technology included as part of the HP Digital Assist Seed Grant, the students created a slide show that incorporated math with basketball statistics.

The students who worked on projects for the HP Digital Assist Program were taken out of class and brought to their cafeteria for what they thought was a “special activity.” What they got was a full-blown HEAT event with all of the high energy and excitement that is synonymous with the HEAT Experience.

With pizza and t-shirts in hand, HEAT players Udonis Haslem and Daequan Cook along with Jason Jackson, Burnie, and the HEAT Dancers surprised 50 students who participated in the HP Digital Assist Program with a pizza party. After congratulating the students on their hard work, Haslem, Cook, and the HEAT Dancers served pizza and handed out t-shirts to all of the students in attendance.

Haslem and Cook also took time to sit down with students to review Shenandoah’s multimedia project submission on two HP tablet computers the school received as part of the HP Digital Assist Seed Grant. For their hard work, the 50 students in attendance also received a ticket to the Saturday, November 14th HEAT game versus New Jersey Nets at AmericanAirlines Arena.
