HEAT to Host Annual Thanksgiving in Overtown Celebration

MIAMI, Nov. 19 – Partnering with Humana, Miami HEAT players, coaches and staff look forward to making this Thanksgiving a special day for nearly 1,000 families in Overtown, for its annual Thanksgiving in Overtown Celebration. The event, in its 13th year, will take place on Monday, November 22 from 3-5PM, with the central hub of the festivities being held at the 9th Street Pedestrian Mall (between NW 8th and NW 10th Streets and NW 2nd Avenue).

“We are pleased to partner with Humana as a sponsor of this event for a second year in a row. This year, Humana held a food drive at multiple South Florida provider facilities and administrative offices in Miramar, resulting in more than 9,000 cans of food being donated to this worthwhile endeavor,” said HEAT President of Business Operations Eric Woolworth.

The block-party carnival will take place in the historic district of Overtown for their residents, but the event will be especially meaningful for a select group of nearly 1,000 underprivileged families (which have been pre-selected by the City of Miami Overtown NET office). Those families will each receive a frozen turkey and all the Thanksgiving trimmings from the HEAT.

The HEAT Dancers, Burnie the HEAT mascot, DJ Irie and the Xtreme Team will entertain families with special dance performances and an acrobatic dunk show throughout the block-party. In addition, the children will be treated to amusement rides, games, face painting, clowns, and a visit by the HEAT Fireball Express, a vintage 1952 interactive fire truck, complete with retractable basketball hoops.

The event is proudly sponsored by the Miami HEAT, Humana, Euphoria, Levy Cares, Publix, George Weston Bakeries and WHQT-FM, 105.1.
