Guardian Angel and Holtz Center InformationFeb 7 2002 12:15PM
Founded in 1997, the Guardian Angels are a membership support group of Jackson Memorial Foundation dedicated to providing the very best medical care possible for children being cared for at the Holtz Center for Maternal and Child Health. The group raises private funds to enhance and expand pediatric specialty programs, and leads the creation of a comforting modern environment for hospitalized children and their families. A special commitment is the Guardian Angels’ direct sponsorship of critically ill children, who arrive at the Holtz Center’s doorstep without any resources or hope. The Guardian Angels’ mission exemplifies what can be accomplished through the generosity of leaders who augment public funding with private funds. Guardian Angels pledge $1,000 per year for five years. Throughout the year, they host numerous social events available to members and their guests. Affairs have ranged from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” to private receptions in homes, upscale restaurant openings and private cocktail parties. The “Guardians of the Children” Luncheon is held yearly to celebrate and honor select individuals for their selfless work on behalf of children. Holtz CenterThe Holtz Center is home to Jackson’s world class pediatric services where all patients, regardless of their ability to pay, are given equal access to care. With 428 beds dedicated to newborns, the Holtz Center is one of our nation’s highly respected children’s hospitals as well as South Florida’s number one birthing center. In 1998, the facility was renamed the Holtz Center for Maternal and Child Health in honor of the Fana Holtz Foundation’s landmark gift. Jackson Memorial FoundationThe primary mission of the Jackson Memorial Foundation is to seek private philanthropic funding for the development and support of important capital projects at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center. In addition to major capital projects, the Foundation supports the creation of special medical programs aimed at the under-served or needy in our community and helps improve the medical center’s capability to provide access to medical care for those of limited financial means. Among the Foundation’s signature projects have been the creation of the Ryder Trauma Center-Dade County’s major Trauma center; the development of the Holtz Center for Maternal & Child Health-one of the largest children’s hospitals in the nation; and the support and expansion of the Breast Health Center-the principal resource for women with breast cancer in Dade County. |
