MIAMI – On Monday, August 19th, the reigning NBA Champion Miami HEAT kicked off the 2013-14 school year in Miami-Dade County by welcoming back the students and teachers at Flagami Elementary. HEAT staffers along with HEAT presenting sponsors Del Monte Fresh Produce, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and Nesquik distributed healthy snacks, school supplies and other gifts to the students as they entered the school. Miami-Dade Public Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho was also in attendance. HEAT mascot Burnie and the Xtreme Team provided entertainment and the 2013 Larry O’Brien Championship trophy was on display.

Flagami Elementary enters the new school year as one of South Florida’s highest scoring Title I schools in Miami-Dade County. They have also shown a long history of success on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). The HEAT selected Flagami Elementary School because of its great academic accomplishments and the strong support it receives from the community and dedicated staff.
