April 14, 2008 | Air Canada Centre | Miami HEAT - 75| Toronto Raptors - 91
HEAT Head Coach Pat Riley
On the game:
“We started turning the ball over and missing all at the same time. The same thing happened yesterday, we could not sustain the game. They got ahead by eight or nine or ten. Then at 74-69, I thought maybe we could get back into it, and then it opened up again. We, just at the wrong time, started missing and turning the ball over. It’s lethal against this team (Raptors), against any team.”
On Daequan Cook’s effort….:
“He was great tonight. He was sharp, focused. He was right on. He’s a prolific shooter when he gets it going, gets his rhythm. He gets it so high. I was really pleased with his focus. I thought defensively he did a decent job on Parker (Anthony) also.”
HEAT Guard Chris Quinn
Thoughts on a long season…:
“It is never fun when you are losing but at the same time I enjoy playing basketball and I enjoy my teammates. When the time comes and it does end there will be some mixed emotions.”
What do you take most from this season?:
"I think that I have learned a lot through the year, individually and team-wise. I think lots of times when you are losing like this and things are this bad that is the time that you can learn the most. No matter what direction we are going next year I think everyone of us can learn from this season and hopefully none of us ever experience anything like it again. "
Raptors Head Coach Sam Mitchell
Are you in a position now to rest guys on Wednesday?:
"You know what, I’ll probably split the time up. I’m going to play everybody, but I’m going to split time up. There’s no substitution, you can’t simulate games in practice. We need to make sure we’re healthy, rested, keep our timing like the way we played defense in the third and fourth quarter. We need to keep that intensity up."
On the lethargic first quarter….:
“Well, both teams played last night and they made shots. I thought Daequan Cook came out and made shots, and their point guard (Chris Quinn) made some shots. You go in at halftime and we are holding them to 38 percent. So they were beating us, they made some three’s. The two guys that we didn’t want to make three’s, we left open to make three’s, and offensive rebounds. We were pleased with the 38 percent field goal percentage, that’s pretty good defense. We felt like if we could take away the shots from those guys and then move the basketball and then make some shots ourselves. I thought Jason (Kapono) played very well in the second half. His defense, he was active. He stuck with it, he made a couple of shots. Rasho (Nesterovic) had three 20 point games in the second half of the season. I don’t know if Rasho had three 20 point games in his career in one season. Rasho has been playing great for us. It was a nice win for us.”
Raptors Forward Anthony Parker
What was the key in the second half in picking up the defensive intensity:
“Just what you said, we picked up the defensive intensity. They started off, came in and played hard. Everybody talks about this Miami team not being so good but this Miami team took Cleveland down to the wire last night, they come out and play great defense and play with high intensity and you have to give them credit too..”
Talk about your game tonight and your jumper and how you got in rhythm tonight?:
"I felt a little better, I turned down a couple shots and felt a little frustrated but than I just tried to be a scorer when the ball came to me."
What are the key things to focus on heading into the playoffs?:
"I think it’s just not losing focus, finishing plays up, getting defensive rebounds and just playing relaxed and playing Raptor basketball and we’ll be alright."
Raptors Forward Chris Bosh
Thoughts on securing the sixth spot?:
“Like I said, we did not want to go down (playoff position) and that’s what it’s about. It takes a lot of pressure off of Wednesday’s game. We still are going to treat it like a regular game but going in already knowing that we have the sixth spot is good. We can focus and prepare for a team now.”
Thoughts on facing Dwight Howard in the playoffs?:
"It’s going to be a lot of fun. Dwight (Howard) is a good friend of mine but he is one of the best competitors I have in this league. He is going to go hard and we have to get a game plan ready for him. We know he is a good strong physical player on the inside. I think if we are aggressive with him on defense, and on offense try to get him into a little foul trouble that will give us an edge. I think sometimes I am a mismatch for him. I know that he has guarded me in the past and anytime that happens, I try to use my quickness around him. Unfortunately (for him), he has caught me at bad times when I was shooting the ball really well. I know I had success against him and in saying that, I know they are going to have a big game plan for me. I have to stay ahead of the game right now."
Raptors Center Rasho Nesterovic
Thoughts on the Orlando Magic and Dwight Howard?:
"Well it is not one guy, it is a team. We have played well against them but we are going to have to play even better to beat them. I think we match up well against them. We are going to try to our best, it is different than the regular season because we have seven games and your going to know everything about them and they’re going to know everything about you so it’s going to be one or two balls deciding it. Rebounding and small mistakes are going to decide the games."
