April 11, 2008 | AmericanAirlines Arena | Miami HEAT - 91 | Memphis Grizzlies- 96
HEAT Head Coach Pat Riley
On the game:
“We just ran out of fire power at the end and didn’t make two or three stops. We were just fighting from behind the whole game. We were down 18 and got back to 4 or 5, then it went to 10. It’s a tough thing to do to come all the way back and get over the hump. We definitely had a chance. We had one shot at it. I think Quinny (Chris Quinn) had a great pull-up, a great look at tying the score. That was the last opportunity.”
On scoring twelve in a row:
“We started the third quarter like we typically do. We weren’t ready. We weren’t talking. They scored five straight points and we were down nine. We take a 20 [second timeout] and once we got it back to 59–54 , he (Jim Boylan) took a time out and we just kept playing, kept playing, kept playing. We played extremely well. We didn’t turn it over. We got good shots. We got a good win. They’re happy. They’re working hard.”
"On Kasib Powell’s injury:"
“He had a cramp. He was about ready to get it in the time out before that. He was trying to drink a lot of water, but it was too late.”
"On whether any of the D league players will be coming back:"
“They’ll be in the summer development. We’ve already made that decision on Stephane (Lasme). We signed him.”
HEAT Forward Ricky Davis
On the game:
“We were down and we kept getting beaten on the boards. It’s tough for us to come back when we keep giving a team second chance shots.”
HEAT Guard Chris Quinn
On the game:
“I thought we played hard in the second half, but in the first half we got behind by too much. It’s tough to come back like that.”
On clinching the worst record in the NBA:
“I don’t really have too many thoughts. I guess it is what it is. With three games left, we are going to play as hard as we can for all three of them. We want to win. As a competitor, you never want to go down like that. With three games to go, all we can do is play as hard as we can and try to get some wins.”
Grizzlies Forward Hakim Warrick
On the game:
“We had a lot of energy out there on the floor. Andre Brown was a great lift for us. He has not been playing, and I know that is hard. He showed a lot of determination to come off and play the way he played. We did a pretty good job [defensively]. I think they [Miami HEAT] shot 38 percent. You will get a lot of wins when you hold a team like that. We want to use these games to try to click and get together as much as we can. It is a new system with a lot of new players, and we are still jelling and still plan on getting better and will continue to get better.”
Grizzlies Guard Casey Jacobsen
On the game:
“It was really fun to get out there. Andre [Brown] and I have not played in a long time, and we were pretty anxious to get out there and contribute to a great win tonight. I am not going to lie; it felt really good. Every time we have won a game this year, the locker room [atmosphere] is great, the camaraderie is so much fun. It is like, ‘why don’t we do this every game?’ But we are trying, we are trying. It seemed like we were talking and communicating [better tonight]. When we made mistakes, it seemed like we were trying to help one another. We tried to do the right thing. Even when you play good defense, sometimes teams still make good shots. Tonight we did not get down on each other. We weathered their [Miami HEAT] storms when they made runs and some shots. It just looked like we were playing together out there.”
Grizzlies Guard Michael Conley
On the game:
“The bench came up big. The guys played well. Andre [Brown] came up big with the tip in at the end. He played great the whole game. Everybody played their roles and did not try to do too much. It was a total team effort.”
On playing with Kyle Lowry:
“It is so much fun when he is out there, because he has a point guard mentality, but at the same time, he has the mentality that he wants to push the ball a lot. Having two people that want to push the ball [playing together] is great. Kyle definitely gets up the court. I am always looking for him. He really pushes our whole team. Everybody starts to run with him, and everybody starts playing together and having fun.”
