March 28, 2008 | Madison Square Garden | Miami HEAT - 96 | New York Knicks - 103
HEAT Head Coach Pat Riley
On the game:
“We did enough things to win the game. We didn’t shoot the ball well, but that is too much to overcome. Three, four or five extra rebounds might have been a win for us. They are big. They keep that ball alive.”
On Ricky Davis:
“You have to look at what guys contribute to the team this year and some guys can stay the course and show tremendous character in the adversity. I looked at Ricky and said you know you playing 82 (games) is big. He could take a walk and sit on the sidelines but no he plays 82 (games) and he is dedicated to doing that.”
On the season:
“We are at the bottom looking up. As long as you have that kind of attitude, I think it will work itself out. You can have your good days and bad days, good months and bad months, good years and bad years…this is a bad year.”
HEAT Guard Ricky Davis
On the rest of the season:
“That’s what it’s about. Having experience in the league, to finish out the season, you’re here to play 82 games. It is definitely fun, it is what is all about. I would rather be playing all day than sitting down. Like Coach said, I am going out there and earning that check.”
On the D-League players:
“We have seven or eight guys hurt right now, but I’m still here. With the guys coming in and the new guys playing, (I) am just helping them along. I am here to do that.”
On the game:
“I just got hot. Quinny (Chris Quinn) found me in the right positions and I hit open shots.”
Knicks Head Coach Isiah Thomas
On the Game:
“Every game we see something different in Wilson Chandler. Tonight he had 10 rebounds, a double-double tonight. He shot the ball well. He is active and getting a little bit more aggressive. I like the things he is doing with the minutes he is getting. I thought Randolph Morris came in and did a good job also. He got eight rebounds. It was a good night for the rooks (rookies). I thought our veterans, the guys that were engaged in the game, Jamal (Crawford) and (Zach) Randolph and I thought David (Lee) was really good tonight. It was good to get a win.”
On the rest of the season:
“It is tough when you are trying to balance developing young players at the expense of giving veteran guys minutes who have been around a long time particularly at the end of the season when you don’t have a chance to make the playoffs. This is the toughest time of the e year for players and coaches when you are this far out of it.”
On Pat Riley:
“Our conversation will remain private and it is safe to say I am a big fan of his. I remember when I was just a kid trying to understand how to win in the NBA. He, Jerry West and Doctor (Jerry) Buss were extremely kind to me in terms of letting me in the locker room and explaining to me how the League worked. (Larry) Bird, (Kevin) McHale, K.C.Jones and that group were very good to me when I was coming up so I have great respect for Pat Riley.”
Knicks Forward David Lee
On the game:
“I just tried to give a spark. They put me in the game to try to play some defense. I didn’t do a good job with that, but I was able to knock down some shots and help us out tonight.”
“We just got in our positions and knocked down shots. We really weren’t getting any stops, and we were trading baskets a little bit, but we never let them get back and come back and take the lead. We kept our composure, we knocked down some shots, we missed a lot of them in the closing minutes, but we made enough to win.”
Knicks Guard Jamal Crawford
On the rest of the season:
“They are very important still. Young guys are getting experience and that is going to benefit the Knicks in the long run. Also, when the fans come out and pay a lot of money to be here and support us, we try to give them a good show.”
On Ricky Davis:
“Ricky is a scorer and he has always been a scorer. He is the veteran there and he put them on his back tonight.”
Knicks Forward Zach Randolph
On Wilson Chandler:
“He is working hard. Exercising real hard at the gym, that is all you can do right now is to get better. (I tell him) to keep on working hard, get experience and learn the game.”
