March 24, 2008 | AmericanAirlines Arena | Miami HEAT - 78 | Milwaukee Bucks - 73
HEAT Head Coach Pat Riley
On the Game:
“Certainly one of the old grind out games. I mean they’re desperate as hell. They’re right on the brink of being eliminated. It was a fun game to coach and watch even though it wasn’t one of those free flowing games, but the guys played really hard.”
“It wasn’t a pretty game. We were making a lot of shots at the end. The only time that we didn’t make a stop was when somebody tried too hard and ran by somebody. They were constantly having to make plays. Some of the plays they tried to make didn’t turn out to be scoring plays.”
On Joel Anthony and Chris Quinn’s contribution:
“Chris is accomplished and is working hard at it. You can see the improvement in the game and the confidence. It’s been just two years of his own perseverance, work and patience. He’s been loyal to his work ethic. When he gets an opportunity, this is when he can shine. And he’s not trying to shine, he’s just trying to win. That’s all he’s trying to do is win, make plays and compete. Joel, same thing - it’s all pure. There’s nothing else but ‘I want to compete.’ And that’s great.”
On the blocked shots tonight from Joel Anthony and Stephane Lasme:
“Both of these guys will meet you there. Lasme is actually quicker to the ball. Joel (Anthony) is getting quicker to it. The play he (Anthony) made on (Michael) Redd is one that we see at practice all the time.”
HEAT Center Joel Anthony
On the game:
“It felt good. The fans were really into the game. It was a great feeling for everyone out there on the court and everyone on the bench. It was good, a good win for us. We all came together and played really well.”
“I’m just trying to make sure I get better. That has been my whole focus and to help us get wins.
On his second quarter dunk over Yi Jianlian:
“It felt real good to be able to make that play. The fans were into it. The bench was standing up. Everyone did a real good job of focusing in after that.”
“I was just trying to take it over the top. I couldn’t stop smiling. All the way down court, if they had the camera on me, you would have seen nothing but my mouth guard.”
HEAT Guard Chris Quinn
On the game:
“It felt great. The guys we have playing right now have a lot of pride. We were able to play well and get a win tonight.”
“I worked very hard and I’m going to continue to work extremely hard. I’m getting more of an opportunity now and tonight I was able to take advantage of it.”
“It’s fun being out there in the fourth quarter in a tight game. Your adrenaline kicks up a bit. To have the ball in your hands down the stretch, it’s a lot of fun.”
On Mo Williams:
“Mo (Williams) is a great player. He has proven a lot in this league. I think it’s our fourth time playing them this year and going up against him is a lot of fun.”
Bucks Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak
On the Game:
“Turning the basketball over, not sharing it [hurt us the most]. We only had 11 assists in the game, and we had that many assists in the first 10 minutes of our last game. We need to work hard. Defensively, I was not that disappointed. 78 points is going to win most games. Offensively, it was a lot of one pass shots, a lot of putting our head down and not playing together. It is very difficult if we do not play as a team, set screens and go hard offensively. We did not have the sense of urgency on offense. It showed in some of our turnovers and it showed in our shot selection. Still, we had an opportunity to win the game. We were down one with a couple minutes to go and we turned it over three straight times. We were not locked in from an offensive point of view.”
“Coming out of the locker room, we were up five and had an opportunity to make some plays. They hit some shots and got back in the game, and it became a back and fourth second half.”
“It was not easy basketball to watch from an offensive point of view. I don’t think our low assist rate was due to missing shots. It was the way that we were missing shots. We have a coach that charts the number of passes on each possession, and this was one of the lowest points of the year. We were getting the ball on one pass and that person was thinking they had to get it done. It ended in 19 turnovers and a really low shooting percentage.”
Bucks Center Andrew Bogut
On the game:
“Each quarter was probably different again. We played four different styles throughout the game. It’s a game you would think we [would] win. We outrebounded them by 20, had more second chance points, more points in the paint, and we still lose the game. It is one of those things where we have to look at the tape and see where we messed up.”
“Defensively we did a pretty good job, but offensively we were terrible.”
“They hit some big shots to start the third [quarter]. That, I think, changed the game and changed the momentum for them. They were playing with a lot of confidence. They had nothing to lose, just like us. It was a disappointing loss for us.”
“Anytime you are, at halftime, talking about energy and effort, you are in some trouble. That should just be a part of the game. Basketball should always be played with energy. It should always be played hard. That is the reason we lost to a team with one of the worst records in the NBA.”
Bucks Guard Mo Williams
On the game:
“It is tough to lose games you feel like you should win. We beat Cleveland at home and played solid basketball the way that we want to play basketball, moving the ball. It is upsetting, because we know we are better than [tonight]. We know we should have won the basketball game if we played the right way, especially after coming off a win at home and playing so solid against Cleveland. It is frustrating to not be able to pull it together consistently as a unit. You have to keep working at it and try to get back that rhythm and consistency. If we do that, we win more games.”
Bucks Guard Michael Redd
On the game:
“One, we were turning the ball over, and two, we were missing shots. That did not help. Give Miami credit, they came out and played hard too. They are still an NBA team without their [starters], but it is a game we should have won. When they had a full roster, we beat them. They are depleted, and we lose to them. That is how the NBA is. It hurts, but we have to get back to work on Wednesday.”
