HEAT Forward Bobby Jones
On with the other new additions to the Miami HEAT:
“We were just playing carefree. We didn’t have anything to lose. It was fun, but we were down 20.”
“I’m a hustle type of dude. That’s what I bring to the table. If I can bring that every night, then everything else is a plus.”
On his fall:
“It was one of those stingers. It was going to go away eventually. It’s good now, I’m all right.”
On whether or not the Miami HEAT is going to sign him tonight after his 10 day contract expires:
“I’m going to speak to them after I get done with you (the media).”
HEAT Guard Blake Ahearn
On the game:
“I think we did all right. When our opportunity was given to us, we went in, played hard and did what we could. When we are out there and have our opportunity, we just have to play hard and make the most of it.”
“The D-League was represented real well out there in the fourth quarter.”
“I’m going to play hard regardless of whether it is my first game or I’ve been here for 500 games. I’ll do what I can to help the team.”
“Coach (Rothstein) did a good job of keeping the sets pretty simple for me. For the most part I learned what I could today.”
HEAT Forward Stephane Lasme
On the game:
“I think we all wanted to play hard. I don’t think anyone in the last quarter was worried about the score. At the end of the day it is still basketball, no matter where you play. We want to play hard.”
Wizards Head Coach Eddie Jordan
On the game:
“We are very happy with the most part of that game. We found a groove at both ends of the floor. We moved the ball. We made some terrific plays with some good passing and we finished at the rim. Antawn (Jamison) made some threes that really changed the game in the sense where they had to come chase him. It was a good balanced 38 minutes. With our young guys having to learn how to play in a game like this, and be more focused and be more disciplined and executing a little better is what we have to work on.”
On the ball movement::
“We showed film. We talked about how we moved the ball in the second half of the Orlando game and how we defended and how we stayed on the same page on both ends. We had good organization at both ends of the floor, offense and defense. Tonight we were a little discouraged about not containing the basketball. J Will (Jason Williams) is pretty hard to defend sometimes off the dribble. Chris Quinn got a little bit more aggressive than we thought. Our bigs didn’t contain some of the drives from the baseline. Thirty-eight minutes we played really solid, then 10 minutes, maybe 12 minutes, we have to get it right with our young guys.”
“We have to have balance and cutters. As long as you have the intent of being unselfish and if you help your teammates you help yourself.”
On keeping the momentum:
“I don’t know. It’s like playing 18 holes. You hit a few great shots and you say, ‘how can I bottle this up?’ You just can’t. Look, if we can stay professional and keep our energy up - come in with a professional mindset with all 11 guys that we have, then we can get things done.”
On Caron Butler’s play:
“He had a terrific first half in here last year. He made the All-Star team but then got hurt at the end of the season. He had a terrific start this year. He made the All-Star team again. What he’s done is work in the off season. He got some more range on his jump shot. He can shoot the three. He is really focused in on being a terrific player, passer and rebounder. A guy that can push, that can make plays. It’s just a work ethic. It’s just a sincere passion to be one of the best players in the league and that’s what he has become.”
Wizards Forward Antawn Jamison
On the game:
“By winning on Wednesday and coming out here and not being prepared would have been a disgrace. We had fun when we got here Wednesday night and on Thursday, we got back to the task at hand and we got back down to business. Definitely one of those games that if we didn’t come out prepared or mentally ready to play, you never know what could have happened.”
“They played hard. They’re playing for jobs, they’re trying to show people that they belong at this level, so you know that they’re going to play hard. That was really one of the points of emphasis, to come out and play hard. Even in the first half, we got up, they came back and made some shots and made us play. We had a couple of turnovers but we stayed calm and executed the way we should have in the second half.”
On winning five of the last six games:
“We’re getting there. Guys are getting healthy. When Caron (Butler) came back, it made a lot of things easier for certain guys and we’re waiting on Gilbert7 (Arenas) to get back. The effort has always been there, it’s just defensively getting to the way we played Wednesday night, making it tough for certain guys.”
On playing Detroit March 23:
“The most important thing is that we’re going to play hard. We’re giving some young guys some opportunities to play. We know what we have to do. Detroit is a great defensive team so we can’t get frustrated if things aren’t going well offensively. That’s the task at hand, and we really need to carry that over to the West Coast trip as well because the teams that we play can really fill up the box score and they play really well at home. We have to just find a way to start winning games on the road.”
Wizards Forward Caron Butler
On the game:
“Obviously, we were just trying to assert ourselves early and establish some type of rhythm and when you’re playing in games like this, you want to put teams away, because once you give them a little life – I mean you saw what happened to UConn today and those kind of things happen. You have to try to put teams away early, teams that you’re supposed to beat, you have to try and put them away and we did a good job of that.”
“It’s an equal-opportunity offense. That’s what I’ve been saying from the second I came here. If you move the ball, you’re going to get a lot of opportunities and guys understand that. Guys will get their numbers and have good nights, but you have to continue to move the ball and make it difficult for the team to key in on one particular person.”
On Detroit game March 23:
“Detroit is a good defensive ball club and obviously we know we have to rebound the ball well and we have to continue to move the ball and if we move the ball and space out the floor and give guys the opportunity to go one-on-one.”
