March 18, 2008 | Bradley Center | Miami HEAT - 112 | Milwaukee Bucks - 106
HEAT Head Coach Pat Riley
On the Game:
“We hung in there and had a great spurt. At that particular time it was just about ball movement and making simple plays. We ran some simple pick-and-rolls and guys were making shots.”
On the play of Chris Quinn:
“What you are seeing with Chris is three years of absolute hard work. Everyday for two or three hours before practice, after practice, on his days off, at midnight, he’s just improved himself as a player. He had great confidence when we isolated Michael Ruffin and he took it to the basket.”
On the surge in the fourth quarter:
“We didn’t turn the ball over and kept it real simple. The shots went in but there were a lot of open shots because of pick-and-rolls resulting from one or two passes.”
HEAT Forward Shawn Marion
On the play of the bench tonight:
“We were passing the ball tonight. When we pass the ball it makes us hard to guard. That’s good team ball when you are doing that and it shows because we got a win.”
HEAT Guard Daequan Cook
On going up against former fellow Ohio State Buckeye Michael Redd:
“It’s tough because he’s a great player and one of the best in the league at scoring. He’s a great shooter. I think tonight we just played a lot more aggressive and got up into him. He’s a tough player and sometimes a hand in his face doesn’t bother him. We had a chance to play together the summer before I started school at Ohio State and that’s when we started to bond and stay in touch with each other.”
On the Heat’s play in the fourth quarter:
“We were more aggressive. In the second half we had a great flow. Sometimes in the third quarter we are a team that doesn’t come out that aggressive but tonight we didn’t do that.”
Bucks Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak
On the Heat’s second half comeback:
“We couldn’t get any stops. At the end of the third quarter I thought that we let them back in to where it was close. Then they scored on I believe the first twelve possession of the fourth quarter. You can’t win games if you don’t get some stops. It’s super frustrating.”
On the team’s perimeter defense:
“It was pick-and-roll related stuff. They ran the same play over and over again. There were times when we didn’t get the ball trapped the way we wanted to. There were parts of our rotations that were slow. We over-helped on rollers and let pop guys come out and catch and shoot. There were a variety of different mis-coverages basically.”
On the team chemistry:
“With what we’re going for, that’s what you strive for is to find chemistry. We don’t have it. There are a lot of things that need to be looked at. Teams that win games, you’d say that they have chemistry. Teams that don’t (win) typically don’t (have chemistry). That’s not an indictment on our guys. It’s just that the reality right now is that we’re not clicking together.”
On Michael Ruffin’s energy tonight:
“Mike (Ruffin) was great. He got his hands on every rebound, particularly in the first half. That’s what he does. He brings it. It was terrific to see.”
Bucks Center Michael Ruffin
On his double-double tonight:
“I’m just trying to do whatever I can to help the team win. It’s a team effort and we’re out there working but we keep coming up short. It starts to get frustrating after a while, trying to fight through it and trying to keep battling. It’s been tough.”
On the Heat’s comeback in the second half:
“You have to give the Heat a little credit. They got hot. It wasn’t like they were shooting lay-ups. They were shooting twenty-two foot jump shots and every last one of them was falling in. We kept trying to figure out ways to stop them and we just weren’t able to do it tonight.”
On the mood in the locker room:
“Everyone’s frustrated, everyone’s a little down. It’s our job, we have to go out there and keep working. We have to go out there and battle and try to make the most of the opportunities that we have left.”
Bucks Guard Mo Williams
On the team’s attempted comeback:
“We fought back, just a little bit too late. You have to give them credit. They played well.”
On what’s next for the team:
“You have to go out and whatever you have you have to bring it. It’s definitely a mental drain, speaking from a personal standpoint. At the same time you have to be professional and you have to play for the fans. You still have to be professional and respect the game.”
