HEAT Head Coach Pat Riley

On The Game::
“I thought we played extremely hard tonight and I thought that we put up a real good fight. I don’t think we played as smart as we needed to and I would have liked to have gone to the foul line a little bit more. I know we took a lot of jump shots, they (Orlando Magic) took 30 threes also but they shot 36 free throws, we shot six. Being as short handed as we were, I thought we had some unbelievable efforts tonight, especially J. Will (Jason Williams). He rolled his ankle pretty bad in the first half and then he rolled it again in the second half. He never asked out, and I wasn’t taking him out because he would of cooled off.”

“I’m proud of our guys. I thought we played extremely hard and that’s all we can ask for.”

On Jason Williams tonight:
“He did have the ball a lot. He did a real good job at using the screens. He set people up and used his dribble penetration to create space. He just had it going. I thought our tempo also gives him a little bit better of a chance.”

On Joel Anthony:
“The kids a big strong kid. He has worked extremely, extremely hard to get to this point. What you saw out there tonight, I don’t think it was a fluke.”

HEAT Guard Daequan Cook

On what he needs to improve:
“Defense. In college you give a little hand check here and there, where as here you can’t hand check at all. It’s very difficult for me coming from a place where I’m used to having a hand on them, sliding with them. Here you can’t hand check at all. I’m going to have to get used to that.”

On all the fouls:
“It’s very frustrating for me. Every time I get a foul, it’s the same type of foul. It’s nothing different. I’m either hand checking or bodying up.”

On offensive end:
“I feel really good. I’m back in that rhythm. Now it’s just me continuing that and finishing off the season strong.”

On the season:
“I feel real good. I’ve made a lot of errors. There’s been a lot of ups and downs on this team. It’s been a learning process for me.”

HEAT Center Joel Anthony

On the game:
“I feel pretty good. It always feels good when you can go out there and produce. I was just trying to go out there and play my minutes hard. Obviously we were undermanned, but as long as we played hard and played together, we would be able to get a good result. I just wanted to do whatever I could do to help out the team.”

On his play:
“You feel a little more confident especially with more minutes. It felt good to be on the court again. You try to do the best job you can.”

On getting more rebounds, more blocks:
“That’s the type of aggression they want out of me. Coach Askins is always telling me to keep pursuing the ball.”

On his offense:
“I’ve just been trying to work on my game. I’m just happy that my shot was falling.”

On playing against Dwight Howard:
“He’s one of the best post players in the league. It’s obviously a big battle to go up against a guy like him. It was tough, but was really good for me to see what it’s like playing against a guy like him.”

Orlando Magic Head Coach Stan Van Gundy

On the Game:
“I think the main concern is that we don’t know who is playing for them (Miami HEAT) yet. They certainly have people that are capable of scoring points. They’re playing very free and easy. They’ve been shooting the three better.”

“It’s a NBA basketball game. You go out and play and on any given night anybody is capable of beating anybody. We’ve seen that every year, and every week in this league. There are always great players on the other side.”

On coaching no longer under the shadow of the Miami HEAT:
“There really is no difference in terms of coaching on the floor. You’ve always got someone looking over your shoulder. It’s not different in terms of the players.”

On Dwight Howard and his effect on the rest of the team:
“When you have guys that can shoot the ball, I think it opens things up to some degree for the big guy inside. I think the big guy inside draws a lot of attention and opens up shots. We want to get as much shooting around Dwight (Howard) as we possibly can.”

“I knew he was a real good player. I think he’s gotten a lot better. I think the thing that you don’t know from the outside, that I probably recognize the most, is his intelligence… I don’t know of a single great player in this league who hasn’t been smart. I think people under estimate that and look at the talent. Obviously, these guys have great talent but I think what separates the guys who become truly great and the talented guys who are sort of inconsistent streaky players is intelligence and the ability to know what’s going on on the court. Dwight is a very, very bright guy. We’re blessed. We have a pretty bright team. Our three best players are pretty bright guys.”

Magic Guard Jameer Nelson

On the game:
“They have all these guys out. D. Wade (Dwyane Wade), (Shawn) Marion and (Udonis) Haslem were all out. But despite all of that, we still had to come out and play because all these guys are people who can play. They showed it tonight, these guys are great players. They had a good game. The big guys had a good game and they were active in all of it. That’s what happens when guys get a chance. They play as hard as they can and it showed tonight. Miami did a good job tonight of not laying down.”

On tying the franchise record for road wins:
“The way our schedule was put together, early on we had to win or else we wouldn’t be in the spot we are right now. Winning on the road prepared us for tough environments and tough situations during the course of the game. We were down a lot of those games on the road, and early on, they gave us a jump on our season and they gave us confidence.”

Magic Forward Hedo Turkoglu

On the game:
“We just want to keep getting better. We just want to continue to grow as a young group, accomplish and just get better. They gave us an opportunity and we set our goals high. Just as a group every night whether we’re at home or on the road. We took care of them tonight, and hopefully we can go home and do the same thing.”

“You have to give them credit. A lot of guys stepped it up. That’s the good thing about NBA players – when they get an opportunity, they want to do something. So there are a lot of good players out there and a lot of good teams. We have to give them credit. Really, they almost won it and it wasn’t any blowout. They just kept coming, and making big shots up until the last couple of minutes.”

Magic Forward Rashard Lewis

On the game:
“We knew they’d come out with a lot of energy. I don’t think we played very good defense. I thought they shot the ball well, and they hit a lot of big threes. Their shots were falling and they built a rhythm for themselves. Especially Jason Williams, he led the ship tonight and he hit some big shots to keep them in the game.”

On the franchise record for road wins:
“We’ve been playing well on the road this whole season, and this game is one of those games where we continue to get better and get ready for the playoffs and continue to build a cushion to keep that third spot because Cleveland is right behind us and Toronto is behind them. I think the main goal is to get better for the playoffs and that’s what Coach (Stan Van Gundy) is trying to do. He’s trying to teach us to play every possession regardless of who we’re playing against.”
