HEAT Head Coach Pat Riley
On Mark Blount’s play:
“He had a great game, and shot the ball well. We just didn’t get enough out of anybody else. He was the only player that really played tonight.”
On the Hornet’s guard play:
“Their three guards were 20-for-20. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that ever, ever with the kind of shooting that (Chris) Paul, (Jannero) Pargo, and Bobby Jackson had tonight. They were getting good shots, they had a good rhythm, and we really weren’t changing the rhythm of their shots.”
On his team’s play:
“It was an absolute washout for us. We could never get anything going...we cut it to five in the third quarter, and I thought we had a chance, but we just lost our resolve.”
HEAT Center Mark Blount
On if the team did anything tonight to make it easier for him to score:
“Ricky got a chance to get me in the defense and get several pick and rolls. They gave me a little time to look at the basket.”
“In Minnesota, I wasn’t playing much in training camp. To be able to come here and try to learn the system. The last several games I’m staring to feel comfortable out there. The guys understanding where I am at on the floor and where we need to be to be successful together.”
HEAT Guard Ricky Davis
On Mark Blount’s play:
“I’m sure that he is definitely used to playing inside all of the time. He has good hands, so he can catch that ball down up in there and gets those easy baskets. As long as we keep drawing attention and keep getting him the ball, I think that is the key.”
Hornets Head Coach Byron Scott
On tempo of the game:
“The script was set pretty good and we pretty much followed it to a T. I thought in the first quarter for the first five or six minutes we were playing their type of tempo. . . and we urged the guys to be more aggressive and get up and down the floor, and once we got into that mode, we got into a natural rhythm.”
On their play down the stretch:
“We were more assertive on the defensive end. We had a defensive game plan coming in against Dwayne Wade, who we had to try to contain. When we do that, we don’t seem to focus on the offensive end. We focus on the defensive end and it kind of works hand-in-hand; we get easy shots on the other end, guys start knocking them down and it becomes contagious.”
“We just didn’t want to get lulled into playing their style and try to keep the game in the high eighties or low nineties. We wanted to see if we could get it up there in the hundreds, and if we did, we felt we had a real good chance to win this game.”
On the play of the bench:
“It was good to see him [Bobby Jackson] knock down some shots. Mel [Ely] had a good game and Ryan [Bowen] did a good job of getting up & down the floor and being active. The substitution pattern was a little bit different , but I thought it worked out pretty well. The bench gave us a big lift tonight.”
Hornets Guard Bobby Jackson
On the game:
“I got back on track tonight. Sometimes you are going to shoot the ball in an unexpected way, but you have to stay at it. I stay in the gym and I always work on my shot, and never get down on myself. Some nights you are going to shoot the ball well; sometimes you’re not.”
On his three-point shooting 7-of-7:
“I don’t think I’ve shot that many three’s. I’m happy they were falling tonight. Everything I shot felt good. I felt like I was going to make every shot that I shot. The basket feels real big when you have that type of confidence, and this game is all about confidence.”
Hornets Center Tyson Chandler
On the play of Bobby Jackson:
“I thought Bobby did an excellent job coming off the bench tonight. He was hot, he didn’t miss a shot. I thought (Janerro) Pargo did a great job also coming in and keeping floor balance and making great decisions out there.”
On the play of the bench:
“It is very important to us. Some nights they are going to pick you up and some nights they are going to have to carry you to win basketball games. We got the talent here. I felt our bench took the criticism personal, and you can tell by their performance tonight.”
