December 29, 2007 | Verizon Center | Miami HEAT - 74 | Washington Wizards- 96
HEAT Head Coach Pat Riley
On the game:
“We just didn’t have it at all from the beginning. We kept throwing the ball away. We were flat defensively. We just weren’t in it.”
On the team’s fatigue:
“We went in not thinking about being tired. Everyone was tired. The Wizards were tired coming off their game against the Nets last night. We’ve got six guys hurt and once we got down 26 or 27 points in the third quarter it’s foolish to keep some of our guys in the game. We will get into 2008 and try to change things for the better.”
On the team’s injuries:
“You go through injuries. I think all our guys will be back on Jan. 2 against Milwaukee. I think we’ll be healthy by then.”
HEAT Guard Dwyane Wade
On how his body feels:
“I’m looking forward to 2008. 2007 has been rough. I am not going to complain about the way my body feels. I am sure everybody in this locker room feels the same way. I am just looking forward to 2008.”
On tonight’s game:
“The Wizards played well and we didn’t. We turned the ball over a lot. We’ll just move forward from this and hopefully we’ll get better. There are 50 games left in the season and we’ve got Milwaukee on next Wednesday and we’ll start our new season.”
On the team’s mindset:
“Every game you lose is difficult but we are professionals. Our main thing is to get everybody healthy and to get Shaq, Chris Quinn and Jason Williams healthy.”
HEAT Guard Ricky Davis
On battling through injuries:
“It is tough. We try to get it out of our heads and play hard every night. I think we are playing hard every night but we just need to close games.”
On Wade’s health:
“He’ll probably be sore for the rest of the year with his knee and shoulder injuries. It’s tough with the back-to-back games we have and the schedule we have. He’s playing great and he’s putting the ball in the basket.”
Wizards Head Coach Eddie Jordan
On tonight’s win:
“I liked the way we played in the first half and through three quarters. Our bench played better in the first half, and we moved the basketball around. We played well. We took advantage of being at home and we executed very well at both ends of the floor.”
On the injury situation for both teams:
“Their injury situation is more of a shock for them. They did not have Shaquille O’Neal last night or tonight. They were without Jay Williams and Chris Quinn as well, so it was more of an immediate shock for them and we are pretty much used to where we are.”
On Andray Blatche:
“He had a good first half and some moments in the second, but we are always striving for consistency. There are a lot of steps to be made from all of our young guys.”
Wizards Guard DeShawn Stevenson
On the game:
“It feels good to get a win. It was big to win at their place as well as protect our home court. It has been good to turn the tables around and beat them a couple times in a row.”
On the return of Antonio Daniels:
“It is going to be great. AD brings a lot to this team with his leadership and ability to get to the basket. It will allow me to get back to my original two guard position. I’m just glad we are getting him back.”
On Roger Mason and Nick Young:
“They have been great. We need scoring off the bench. Roger did a great job scoring when he was coming off the bench. It definitely gives us some depth.”
Wizards Forward Caron Butler
On Coats for Kids:
“I just think the fan’s donations are huge. When you can come out and do something that will affect the community in a major way and the fans can support you it’s really heart warming.”
On the win tonight over Miami:
“I thought it was excellent basketball. Our team played together and that’s how we are going to have to continue to play in order to win games. Everybody is going to have to contribute in a major way - from the starters to the last man on the bench - and we got it from everybody tonight.”
On his overall game:
“I am just trying to be as efficient as possible and at the same time I am just trying to play unselfish basketball. When you play unselfishly, everybody wants to be a part of it. We have been moving the ball great and everybody is having fun. We are playing good basketball.”
Wizards Forward Antawn Jamison
On tonight’s game:
“It was tough last night, but the guys did a great job putting it behind them. We made it tough for those guys early on. Dwyane Wade had to take some tough shots early and couldn’t get into a comfort zone. We did a good job controlling the paint and setting a good tempo.”
On the young players:
“They are getting valuable experience on the court. It is great for them to get the opportunity to play and get some games under their belt. When we get everyone healthy it will give us a team that is very deep and experienced.”
