November 11, 2007 | Madison Square Garden| Miami HEAT - 75 | New York Knicks - 72
HEAT Head Coach Pat Riley
On the game:
“We had three or four games like this. Three or four games, in the last couple of minutes we gave it away. Tonight we were fortunate we were able to rebound the ball. We can move on and climb back into the season.”
On getting their first win this season:
“I do the same thing every night. I don’t like to lose. It is not that much fun. We have been experimenting throughout training camp. I stayed a little tighter with the rotation tonight. Defensively we kept hanging in there. We just have to climb back into the season.”
On their defense:
“We started blitzing pick-and-rolls. We gambled a little bit and stayed on the ball a little longer the last three or four possessions and I think that helped us.”
HEAT Guard Jason Williams
On the game:
On tonight’s game:
“We knew we were going to blitz on (Stephon) Marbury and (Jamal) Crawford and we did that on all night and their big guys (Eddy) Curry and David Lee were ducking in so our perimeter had to dig down. I think we played together defensively.”
On getting their first win of the season:
“We just play one game at a time. That is all we can do. You are only as good as your last game.”
HEAT Center Shaquille O' Neal
On the game:
“It was a much needed win for us. We have folded under the pressure the last couple of games. We got a couple big stops and J-Dub (Jason Williams) hit a big shot in the corner and big free-throws.“
On getting their first win of the season:
“We just hung in there the whole game. Previous games we seemed to collapse in the last couple of minutes. Tonight it seemed like we played a whole solid game.”
Knicks Head Coach Isiah Thomas
On the Game
“It is definitely a tough loss. Last game we had 20 turnovers, this game we had 18. We have to do a better job of taking care of the basketball. Miami came in, they were desperate for a win, they just out-scrapped us and out-fought us for a win.”
On the last play:
“Actually the last play was for Steph (Stephon Marbury) to shoot or drive the basketball. If he couldn’t drive it, he could take the three.”
Knicks Guard Jamal Crawford
On the game:
“They dictated the tempo early pounding into Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal) and played out of that. Whenever you do that, you give yourself a chance to win and a chance to slow down the game.”
On Miami getting their first win of the season:
“When you play hard like that, you always give yourself a chance to win. We have to bounce back and get ready for this road trip.”
Knicks Center Eddy Curry
On the game:
“It is kind of hard to tell. I think we just fell apart. They took the game away from us.”
On Zach Randolph not playing:
“It hurt a lot. He was definitely missed tonight. My heart and prayers go out to him and his family, but we definitely missed him.”
Knicks Forward David Lee
On the last two minutes of the game:
“Being up in the final two minutes, we need to find a way to pull that out. We didn’t execute some plays we were suppose to and they did on the other end. This is a disappointing one for sure and now we need to come back and play against Phoenix”
“This game was definitely played at a tempo that Miami prefers. Having Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal) in there, they want to play a little bit slower than we do. They kept that for the majority of the game. That is something we needed to speed up a little bit. We had the game right where we wanted it, we just didn’t do it down the stretch.”
